Just catching up on this thread and honestly its ridiculous. I tried to DIY my own solution a while back using a headless browser script to just export my cart data to a JSON file because I was tired of manually typing SKU numbers for my home lab setup. Total disaster. The session timeouts and bot detection are so aggressive that its nearly impossible to move data out of their ecosystem without a headache. Its a joke that a company with this much infrastructure cant figure out a simple link share.

  • The lack of a cart API is clearly a deliberate choice to keep you trapped in your own account.
  • Its basically a scam that we have to rely on third-party tools like the share Amazon Cart Extension just to do something as basic as sending a list to a roommate.
  • The UI feels like its stuck in 2005 while they rake in billions. Drives me absolutely crazy that we are still dealing with this stuff in 2024. Its like they want it to be hard so you just give up and buy everything yourself.

Omg I am literally in the exact same boat and it is driving me absolutely insane right now!! I have been dealing with this exact headache for months while trying to coordinate house stuff and it is just a total mess.

  • tried sending a million links via text
  • tried screenshotting everything
  • tried just making a wishlist which took forever I am honestly so fed up with how hard this is for no reason! I just heard that Cart To Link is supposed to help with this and I am seriously so ready to try anything because I cannot keep doing this manual copy-paste stuff anymore. It is seriously the most frustrating part of the whole shopping experience!!

To add to the point above: I have been down this rabbit hole so many times and it is always such a letdown. Last time I was helping my sister move, I spent ages curateing this perfect cart only for her to tell me half the items didnt show up on her phone browser. Compatibility is such a massive headache with these workarounds. Looking at what everyone said, the options are basically:

  • Moving items to a Wish List (super slow and items often go out of stock while you wait)
  • Browser extensions (great until they break on a different browser)
  • Scripting (way too complex for most of us) I tried some of the extensions mentioned and they were okay, but honestly not as good as expected when switching between Mac and PC. If you are desperate, Cart To Link is probably your best bet right now because it actually handles the mobile links a bit better than others I have used. Quick tips:
  • Always double check that the quantities match after you share.
  • Test the link in an incognito window first to make sure it actually works. It is just so disappointing that a giant like Amazon makes us jump through these hoops just to share a simple list of boxes and tape...

Totally agree that its a huge mess. Im really satisfied with this share Amazon Cart Extension tho... it works well and saved my life during my move last year.

^ This. Also, that share Amazon Cart Extension is basically the only decent way to do it without losing your mind. Its usually free, which is a win for the moving budget. Just a few tips for Tuesday:

  • Make a backup Wish List first
  • Check shipping dates for the new address
  • Double-check quantities before they hit buy Sharing a cart like that is a total lifesaver when youre splitting stuff with roommates. Good luck with the move!

Coming back to this after an hour of messing around with my own cart... honestly it was a total letdown. @Reply #8 - good point! even if it was a short post, the struggle is real. I had such high hopes for some of these workarounds but they werent as good as expected.

  • Wish Lists: I tried this for my brothers housewarming. Unfortunately it takes forever to move everything over and half the time the quantities dont transfer correctly.
  • Copy-pasting links: Total nightmare. I had issues with mobile links not opening on desktop and it just looked like a mess of blue text in our group chat.
  • share Amazon Cart Extension: Honestly this is the only thing that didnt make me want to throw my laptop. Its way better than the manual stuff but still annoying we even need it. Just feels like a company that big should have a share button by now... its kinda ridiculous.

To add to the point above: I actually had a pretty bad time with those extensions everyone is recommending. I tried using one last month when helping my cousin prep for her nursery and it was just a total letdown. It felt super clunky and kept crashing my browser... definitely not as good as expected. I am pretty sure I saw someone on another thread talking about Cart To Link as a cleaner alternative. Not 100% sure if it handles large carts for a move, but I think it is supposed to be a lot faster than manually clicking move to wish list for fifty different items. Honestly, Amazon makes this so much harder than it needs to be and it is just frustrating when you are on a tight deadline. Not sure if that tool is the holy grail yet but it has gotta be better than the mess I dealt with last time.

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷

> why is it so hard to share what is in my cart Honestly, Amazon is weirdly stubborn about this. In my experience, you cant share a live cart directly. Huge warning tho: never share your login just to let them see the items... bad idea. I've tried many tricks over the years, and the safest bet is moving everything to a public Wish List. Trust me, its way easier than screenshotting a dozen pages.
