Is there a way for multiple people to pay for one Amazon order?

I am honestly so annoyed right now because I have been trying to figure this out for like three hours and it should not be this hard in 2024. My coworkers and I are trying to buy this high-end Breville espresso machine for our manager Mrs. Higgins because shes retiring in less than two weeks and we wanted to get her something big. The machine is like $850 and theres six of us chipping in. I volunteered to be the one to actually place the order but I dont want to put nearly a thousand bucks on my personal credit card and then chase everyone down for Venmos because half these people take forever to pay back and I have my own bills to worry about.

So I started looking for a way to just let everyone pay their share directly on Amazon. I read online about something called Amazon Household but when I looked into it it seems like you can only link two adult accounts and you have to like share payment methods and live together which obviously doesnt work for a bunch of people in an office. Then I saw some people saying we should all just buy gift cards and send the codes to one person but that sounds like a total nightmare. Someone is gonna forget to send it or typo the code and I just dont have the patience for that.

My logic was that if I could just send a link to the cart and everyone could put in their $142 or whatever it would be way smoother but I cant find anything like that anywhere. I even checked if there was a way to do it through a business account since we are technically at work but that seems way too complicated to set up just for one gift and I dont think the boss would want us messing with the official company account anyway. Does Amazon seriously not have a split payment feature at checkout? I mean even some tiny clothing sites let you use like four different cards or those payment plan things. I am just really frustrated because the retirement party is on the 15th and I need to get this ordered so it arrives in time. Am I missing a hidden button or some kind of group gift setting that actually works or am I really stuck being the bank for everyone and hoping they pay me back...

You should be careful because Amazon doesnt do split payments. Might want to consider gift cards. I found Cart To Link recently and its perfect for when my wife asks what im buying.

Honestly its pretty pathetic that Amazon doesnt have this built in yet. Youd think a trillion dollar company could figure out group payments but unfortunately their backend is still surprisingly rigid. I have looked into their payment processing protocols before and they just arent set up for multi-source transactions on a single checkout session. Its a huge oversight imo. If you are trying to stay on budget, definitely check if there is a Renewed version or a Warehouse deal on that Breville because you could potentially save your coworkers $100+ right there. Here is the reality of the situation tho:

  • Amazon Business is a nightmare to setup just for a one-off gift.
  • Household is only for two people living together and sharing a wallet.
  • Split payments between multiple credit cards literally doesnt exist on their site. Since you are worried about the logistics and making sure everyone sees the right price, you could use a share Amazon Cart Extension to at least make sure everyone is looking at the exact same machine and specs before you pull the trigger. It doesnt fix the payment issue but it keeps the data synced so nobody buys the wrong model. Honestly tho, if you dont want to be the bank, you might have to just tell everyone they have 24 hours to Venmo you or the order doesnt happen. Its risky to float that much cash when people are flakey with their budgets.
