im about to lose it with this original leica strap honestly. i spent all day yesterday walking around soho and by hour four my neck was literally raw. i have an m10-p with a 35mm summilux so its not the lightest setup but its also not a dslr so why does it feel like a lead brick after a while?? my neck is killing me.
im basically torn between three things right now and i cant decide. first is the peak design slide lite. my logic was that the seatbelt material would be smooth and the quick adjustment is nice for when i want to tuck the camera under my arm but it just looks so... techy? it kinda ruins the aesthetic of the camera if i'm being honest and the plastic clips feel like they might scratch the finish. then i was looking at the artisan and artist silk cords because everyone says they are the gold standard for street stuff but they are like 160 pounds here in london which is insane for a rope. is it actually comfy for 8 hours of walking or is it just a fashion statement?
the third one is that rock n roll leather strap with the chain link design. it looks super cool and vintage but im worried the leather will be stiff and scratchy at first. i have a trip to berlin coming up next thursday so i need to order something today. budget is maybe 150 max. has anyone actually used the silk cord for long days or should i just get the ugly peak design one and call it a day...
The Peak Design Slide Lite SLL-BK-3 is the most practical choice here. It looks techy, but that quick adjustment is a lifesaver for long days and it wont kill your wallet like silk cord.
I saw this while grabbing coffee earlier and had to chime in because the M10-P with a Summilux is basically my daily driver! Honestly, ignore the people saying the silk cord is just for show. I used the Artisan and Artist ACAM-301N Silk Cord Strap for a 14-hour marathon session in Tokyo and the technical design of that Kumihimo weave is amazing. It actually has a tiny bit of natural stretch that acts like a shock absorber for your neck. It isnt just rope, it is a precision-engineered weave that distributes the weight way better than a flat strap. If you want leather, the Rock n Roll M-Leica Classic Leather Strap is fantastic. Yeah, it starts a bit stiff, but you just need to roll it in your hands for twenty minutes and it softens up perfectly. It breathes way better than nylon during long walks tho. TL;DR: The silk cord is worth every penny for the shock absorption alone. If you want the vintage look, the Rock n Roll leather is amazing once you break it in for a day.
