Recommended lens filters for the Sigma 24-70mm Art lens?

What filters are actually worth it for the Sigma 24-70mm Art because I am spiraling a bit trying to decide. I'm leaving for Iceland in ten days and I spent all my savings on this lens so I only have about $120 left for glass. I read online that the PolarPro ones are the gold standard but they are so expensive, and then I saw some forum posts saying cheap UV filters just ruin the sharpness of the Art series lenses anyway. I really need a circular polarizer for the waterfalls but I'm scared of getting one that vignettes at 24mm since this lens is so chunky. Should I just get a basic Hoya or is it gonna make my $1100 lens look like trash...

Totally agree with the sentiment that you dont need to spend 200 bucks to get great results. Ive been really satisfied using mid-range glass on my Sigma Art lenses for a while now without any real complaints. The trick is basically just finding a slim profile so you avoid that vignetting at the wide end since that 82mm thread is so huge. Since youre heading to Iceland, prioritize a solid CPL over a UV filter for those waterfalls:

I would suggest being really careful with ultra-budget glass on that Sigma Art. Iceland is brutal with the mist and wind, so you definitely need a decent coating.

Honestly, the cheaper glass I tried was not as good as expected once I got into the field. It was pretty frustrating and Iceland is gonna be wet and messy, so you need gear that is actually reliable.

  • Just get any slim circular polarizer from B+W because those brass frames are much more reliable and wont get stuck on your lens thread when the temperature drops.
  • Go with any glass from Breakthrough Photography if you can find it within your budget because they are way better at staying color neutral.
  • Unfortunately cheap coatings are a total pain to clean when they get misted, so avoiding the bargain bin brands is for the best if you dont want to spend the whole trip scrubbing glass.
