Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid ND or CPL that doesnt vignette on the Sigma 18-35mm at the wide end? Ive been shooting for a decade but I just picked up this lens for a landscape gig in Arizona this weekend and my old cheapo filters are making the corners look like a tunnel... its a mess. I need something thin enough for that 72mm thread but high quality since that f1.8 is so sharp. Budget is around 150 bucks and I gotta order it today to get it in time. Is the Hoya Pro1 still the go-to or should I look at PolarPro? Need to fix this glare before I head out...

  • totally agree! You need a super slim profile or that tunnel effect is gonna ruin everything. Since youre looking to save some cash, I love these options:
  • K&F Concept 72mm Nano-X Slim Polarizer
  • Hoya 72mm Fusion One Next CPL They are both amazing and way under your budget! Honestly, the K&F is such a steal and works fantastic even at 18mm. Good luck!

Re: "Be careful with the stack height on that..." - slim filters are definitely needed. The Marumi DHG Super Circular P.L.D 72mm is a safe, budget-friendly alternative that wont vignette at 18mm.

^ This. Also, I honestly had some issues with a few of the pricier brands people usually rave about... they just didnt feel as solid as I expected for the money. If youre like me and worry about breaking stuff or getting a filter stuck on that expensive Sigma glass, Id go with something more tried and true.

  • Hoya 72mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer
  • Tiffen 72mm Digital HT Circular Polarizer Unfortunately the high-end boutique filters just seem like a gamble sometimes and werent as good as I hoped. These options keep you way under that 150 budget and theyve never given me that annoying tunnel effect at 18mm. Just be gentle when threading them on tho... Im always terrified of cross-threading my lenses lol.

Be careful with the stack height on that 18-35mm. Its tricky. Since you're shooting at the wide end, make sure to find a thin-frame filter. I would suggest looking at B+W because their slim lines are engineered to avoid that tunnel effect. Just grab any of their high-end brass polarizers. It should handle the Arizona glare without adding vignetting... should be fine.

^ This. Also, totally agree about the slim frame necessity! I just got this lens and its amazing, but yeah the vignetting is a huge pain if you arent careful. Since you need to order today and want something reliable for the desert, check these out:

  • Breakthrough Photography 72mm X4 CPL is my top pick. Pros: Its incredibly thin so no tunnel effect at 18mm and the glass is crazy clear. Cons: It pushes your 150 budget right to the edge.
  • PolarPro 72mm QuartzLine CP is another fantastic choice. Pros: The brass frame is super rugged and wont bind to the lens threads in the heat. Cons: Might feel a bit heavy compared to others. I love the X4 because it basically feels invisible on the lens. Honestly, either of these will be miles better than a cheapo stack. Have a blast in AZ!
