I have this shoot coming up next Thursday for a local business expo in Seattle and my old mic literally just died on me today. Im panicking a bit because I use a Panasonic GH6 and the internal audio is just unusable for interviews in a loud room like that. I spent like three hours on YouTube today and everyone keeps saying the Rode VideoMic Pro+ is the way to go but then I saw a bunch of comments saying the output level is weird with Lumix preamps and causes this annoying hiss if you dont dial it in perfectly.
Then I looked at the Sennheiser MKE 400 or the 600 but people say the 600 is way too long and might get in the frame if Im using my wider lenses for the floor shots. I only have about 280 dollars left in my budget for this project and I need to order something by tomorrow morning to get it here in time for the event.
Does anyone here actually use a Panasonic mirrorless for run and gun stuff like this? What mic gives the cleanest signal without needing that expensive XLR adapter module?

Listen, I've spent years doing these trade shows and honestly the biggest killer isnt the preamp noise, its the RF interference. You're in a room with five hundred people all on their phones and wireless rigs. I learned that the hard way back in 2018 when a whole interview got ruined by some weird buzzing from a nearby booth. Ever since that disaster, I've been a huge advocate for the Shure VP83 LensHopper Integrated Flash Recording Camera-Mounted Shotgun Microphone. It is built like a tank and handles interference better than almost any other 3.5mm mic I've tried. On my GH6, setting the camera gain to -12dB or lower is the key. The Shure has a +20dB boost toggle on the back that is super clean. It basically bypasses the need for the camera to do the heavy lifting, which solves that hiss problem you're worried about. Plus, the design is really compact. Using a wide lens for b-roll has never been an issue for me because the mic body is short enough to stay out of the shot.
