seriously im so over this audio issue. ive been using my lumix g95 for about six months now and every single video i record has this unbearable electronic hum in the background that i just cant get rid of in post no matter how much i mess with the gain settings. i thought maybe it was just the internal mic being trash which i expected honestly but even when i plug in this cheap lavalier i bought off amazon it sounds like im recording inside a wind tunnel. its getting so frustrating because the video quality is actually amazing but the sound is totally ruining my clips and i have a huge project coming up next Thursday for a local cafe and i literally cannot show up with audio this bad.

i really need a solid external mic that actually plays nice with the panasonic preamps because ive heard they can be a bit finicky with certain brands. i dont have time to keep testing stuff that doesnt work and sending it back so i need something tried and true that people actually use with their lumix setups. its like every time i think i have the settings dialed in the hiss comes back and its driving me crazy.

heres what im looking for:

  • budget is around 250 bucks maybe 300 if its really worth it
  • needs to be a shotgun style mic that sits on the hot shoe
  • i do a lot of handheld stuff so it needs to have a really good shock mount
  • battery powered would be nice so it doesnt drain the camera as much
  • something that doesnt require 50 adapters to work

im located in chicago so i can probably run out to a shop to grab it if i know what to look for but i need to make a decision by tomorrow morning at the latest. has anyone else dealt with this hiss on their lumix? is it just me? i just need something that delivers clean crisp audio without needing a masters degree in sound engineering to set up every single time i hit record...

In my experience, the Rode VideoMic Pro+ Battery Powered Shotgun Microphone is your safest bet. Its ultra-reliable and the built-in gain boost basically kills that noisy internal Lumix preamp hiss every time.

I used to be terrified of messing up audio for clients. Over the years ive found that a physical gain switch is the only way to save those noisy Lumix preamps tbh...

  • Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone is my favorite for handheld stuff because the Rycote mount is basically indestructible. Theyre both safe, reliable choices and dont need extra adapters.

> i need something that delivers clean crisp audio without needing a masters degree in sound engineering i had the same issue on my G-series body. Technical reality is that Panasonic preamps are just noisy. I fixed it with the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Shotgun Microphone. It has a stepless analog gain knob so you can keep camera gain low. its well within your 300 budget, tho the battery is built-in so you gotta keep it charged.
