honestly im so done with this cheap knockoff shotgun mic i bought off amazon. i tried recording a test for this documentary im filming in a busy kitchen tomorrow and the static is freaking unbearable. i can hear the gh5 autofocus motor more than the person talking. i need something professional that works with the gh5 preamps because i dont have time to sync external audio later.

im in chicago so i can run to a store today. budget is $300 max.

  • must be shotgun style
  • works with 3.5mm jack

whats the absolute best mic i can grab right now to stop this annoying hiss? i need it before my 8am shoot.

ive been using the Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog USB Shotgun with my gh5 for ages and honestly its been perfect. it solves that hiss issue immediately since it has its own gain knob. just set your camera levels to -12db and let the mic do the heavy lifting. works well for blocking out background noise too. honestly zero complaints with this setup... its totally solid and you can definitely find it in stock today.

Man you gotta grab something reliable before that shoot starts!! I totally get the frustration with that hiss... it literally ruins everything. If youre in Chicago you should be able to find these easily and they will save your life tomorrow!!

It is fantastic at blocking out that annoying GH5 autofocus motor noise!!
  • Deity V-Mic D3 Pro Super-Cardioid Shotgun Microphone is another stellar choice. I love it because the stepless gain knob lets you dial back the camera preamps to almost zero which kills the hiss instantly. Honestly if you want the safest bet for a loud kitchen go with the <a href=" https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt= Sennheiser&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Sennheiser... the side rejection is incredible! Good luck with the doc, you are gonna crush it!!
