Man im honestly so done with this Yongnuo flash I bought last year. It just misfires like half the time on my Z6ii and I missed like three crucial shots at a rehearsal dinner last night. The recycle time is absolute garbage even with fresh batteries and I can feel it getting super hot after like ten minutes of moderate use its driving me crazy. I have a wedding to shoot in downtown Chicago next Saturday and I literally cannot go in with this piece of junk I need something that actually works with Nikons system without fighting me every step of the way.
I need recommendations fast because I have to order it by Monday to get it in time. Here is what I am looking for:
Is the SB-5000 still the king or are people actually using Godox stuff now without it glitching out? I heard the V1 is good but I'm terrified of 3rd party stuff now after this mess. What are you guys actually using that wont fail me on a job...
Look, if youre totally over the 3rd party lottery, you might want to consider going back to first-party glass and gear. The Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight is basically the gold standard for a reason. Its got a built-in cooling system that stops it from thermal shutting down during long bursts, which sounds like exactly what you need for that Chicago wedding. You can usually find a clean used one on sites like MPB or KEH for right around your $400-500 limit if you check today. Just a word of caution tho, if you do end up trying the Godox V860III-N TTL Li-Ion Flash for Nikon as a cheaper backup, make sure to check the Godox support site for firmware updates. The Z6ii sometimes has weird TTL communication issues with older flash firmware versions. I would suggest testing the TTL accuracy in a dark room before the rehearsal starts just to be safe... nothing worse than missing the kiss because of a glitchy sensor. Youll kill it in Chicago, just get that order in before the weekend ends.
^ This. Also, you might want to consider the Godox V860III-N TTL Flash for Nikon if you want a traditional head. It hits that 1.5s recycle easily with the Li-ion battery. Be careful with HSS tho, that usually triggers the heat sensor.
just get the Godox V1-N Round Head Flash for Nikon tbh. in my experience its way more reliable for weddings.
