Which external flash is best for Nikon DSLR photography?

I need to buy a flash for my D850 by Friday night because I just landed a last minute event gig and my old one literally just died. Budget is strictly $350.

I'm torn between the Nikon SB-700 since it's native and supposedly bulletproof, but then there's the Godox V1 which everyone talks about because of the round head and the lithium battery pack. I'm honestly scared the Godox might have weird sync issues since it's third party but that battery life sounds amazing for a long night. Which one is actually better for a high-pressure situation where I can't afford a fail? Help me choose...

Honestly, I've been super happy with the Godox V860III-N TTL Li-ion Flash for Nikon. It works well, feels reliable, and that physical TTL switch is a lifesaver when things get hectic.

Honestly, for a high-pressure gig on a budget, you gotta be careful with older Nikon tech. The SB-700 is solid but the recycle times are slow. I would suggest going with the Godox V1-N Round Head Flash for Nikon instead.

  • 1.5s recycle time at full power
  • 76Ws output beats the old Nikon specs
  • 2600mAh Li-ion battery saves buying tons of AAs Make sure to check the firmware tho, sometimes third party stuff acts up if you dont update it.
