Best Tamron zoom lens for Fujifilm X-T5 street photography?

Is the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 actually the way to go for street photography on an X-T5 or is it just way too bulky for a long day of walking? Ive been a prime-only shooter for years—mostly sticking to the 23mm and 35mm f2 lenses—so I know my way around the Fuji system but Im hitting a wall planning for my trip to Tokyo next month. I really dont want to be swapping lenses in the middle of Shinjuku or getting dust on the sensor every five minutes so a zoom seems like the logical move for once. My main concern is the weight and the way it handles on the T5 body because that 17-70 looks massive compared to my primes even if the constant f2.8 is tempting. I looked at the 11-20mm too but I think I might miss the tighter framing for candid shots. Budget is about 800 bucks which makes Tamron way more attractive than the Fuji 16-55 brick but I dont want to regret the size if it ends up being a neck-killer after 20k steps. Does the vibration compensation on the Tamron actually play nice with the T5 ibis or is it kind of redundant for street shutter speeds? Just trying to figure out if the versatility is worth losing the discreetness of my usual setup...

Unfortunately, the Tamron zooms are too bulky for Tokyo. Id skip them for the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Fujifilm X... it handles way better on the T5 and costs less.

The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Fujifilm X is chunky on the X-T5, no sugarcoating it. If youre used to those f2 primes, the weight shift is very noticeable after a few hours walk.

  • Weight: Its definitely front-heavy on the T5 body.
  • VC: Tamrons vibration compensation works well with Fuji IBIS for extra stability.
  • Range: 17-70mm is much better for Tokyo than the Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD Fujifilm X for candids.
