Im leaving for Iceland next Thursday and my Nikon photos keep coming out blurry when I try long shots. Im such a newbie sorry but I think I need a remote thingy so I dont shake the camera? My budget is under 30 bucks because the trip was pricey... what remote should I actually get?

Which Nikon are you using? Plugs vary by model.

Re: "Which Nikon are you using? Plugs vary by..." - yeah, definitely stick to wired. I unfortunately had my wireless gear fail during a sub-zero shoot and it was basically a paperweight. Honestly, just grab the JJC MA-N3 Wired Remote Shutter Release for Nikon. Its cheap, simple, and wont die on you in the wind. Save your money for the food there because Iceland is brutal on the wallet.

I had the exact same issue when I started. Every time I touched the camera for a long exposure, the slight nudge from my hand caused some nasty motion blur. I went through a whole trip to the mountains wondering why my shots were soft before I realized I just needed to stop touching the body during the shot. I ended up getting a very basic wired release that plugs into the side. A few things I noticed about using one:

  • Wired versions are very reliable since they dont need extra batteries.
  • The buttons can sometimes feel a bit flimsy on cheaper models, but they usually do the job.
  • It is way easier than using the built-in timer for every single frame. Iceland is incredible so you will definitely want one. Just look for a simple one that fits your specific port. It really does fix the blur issue instantly. Have an amazing time out there!
