im honestly so frustrated with the handling on my new x-e4 even though im incredibly excited about the sensor and the size! its literally like holding a bar of soap and i almost dropped it twice during a street shoot in brooklyn yesterday. i love the minimalist look but my hands are just too big for this thing as it is.
i need a solid grip and a thumb rest asap because i have a trip to mexico city in ten days and i dont want to be fumbling. my budgets around $100 for both. does anyone have brands they actually trust? some of the cheap stuff on amazon looks like itll just scratch the finish...
> its literally like holding a bar of soap and i almost dropped it twice during a street shoot in brooklyn yesterday. Ngl I had the exact same experience when I first got mine. Took it out for a weekend in Chicago and felt like I was gonna drop it every time I turned a corner... its a beautiful camera but yeah, ergonomics were definitely an afterthought on the X-E4 design. Over the years I have tried a bunch of the high-end stuff like the official Fuji grip, but honestly, youre paying for the name. If you want to keep it under a hundred bucks and get it before your trip, I highly recommend the JJC HG-XE4 Metal Hand Grip. I've been using JJC stuff for a decade and it never lets me down. Its solid metal, has the Arca-Swiss plate built-in which is a lifesaver for tripods, and it doesnt feel cheap at all. For the thumb rest, dont waste sixty bucks on the boutique brands. Grab the JJC TA-XE4 Thumbs Up Grip. Some people worry about it scratching the hot shoe, but this one has a little silicone pad that protects the finish. Total cost for both is gonna be like $60 max, leaving you extra cash for tacos in CDMX. I used that exact setup for a three-week trek through Vietnam and it held up perfectly. The grip gives your pinky a place to rest and the thumb grip makes one-handed shooting actually possible without the soap bar sliding away. Best part is they both fit the minimalist vibe without adding massive bulk.
Adding my two cents here. Been shooting Fuji for a decade and the X-E4 is definitely the slipperiest of the bunch. To stay under $100 and avoid scratches, I would go with these:
> its literally like holding a bar of soap Jumping in because I felt the same way until I grabbed the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-E4. I used it during a month in Tokyo and the built-in Arca-Swiss plate is such a lifesaver for quick tripod work. Paired it with the JJC TA-XE4 Thumb Up Grip for Fujifilm X-E4 which cost me maybe $20. Super satisfied with how solid it feels now, totally fixed that slippery soap problem without breaking the bank.
