so i'm basically panicking because i leave for my trip to tokyo in two weeks and i still havent pulled the trigger on a lens for my a7iii. i mostly do street photography and im really stuck between the tamron 28-75mm g2 and that 20-40mm f2.8. the 28-75 seems like the safe bet but im terrified it'll be too bulky to carry around shibuya all day whereas the 20-40 is so tiny but maybe its too wide for people shots?

my budget is strictly under 800 bucks so i can only get one and i dont have time to return it if i hate it. which one is gonna be less of a headache for a week of non-stop walking and shooting?

I spent years lugging heavy gear through cities like Tokyo before I wised up. Trust me, by day three of walking those endless subway stairs, youll regret every extra ounce.

  • Heavy kits lead to sore shoulders and missed shots.
  • You wont care about the extra reach when your neck is cramping. In my experience, being nimble is way more important than having the perfect focal range when youre totally exhausted.
