So I finally pulled the trigger on an M10 for my trip to Italy next month but honestly the budget is pretty much drained after the body and a 35mm summicron lol. Ive been digging through threads and everyone says to get a peak design slide lite and like three extra batteries but man those batteries are so expensive and I kinda hate how the pd anchors look on a classic body.

Im gonna be walking all day in Florence so I need to stay light. Is a thumb grip actually worth the money or just a gimmick? And are there any specific bags that dont scream steal my expensive camera while still being easy to work out of? what are the actual essentials for a 2 week trip...

Checking back in... if those plastic anchors bother you, a simple rope strap is a decent alternative. It wraps around the wrist easily and doesnt look out of place. For a bag, canvas is usually more discreet than leather for travel.

Had a minute to think... > those batteries are so expensive. Honestly, dont blow your last 200 bucks on OEM spares. I have tested the Wasabi Power Battery BP-SCL5 1100mAh against the Leica ones and the discharge rate is nearly identical for way less cash. Also, instead of a flashy bag, just grab a Tenba BYOB 7 Camera Insert for whatever backpack you already own. It stays stealthy and saves a ton.

In my experience wandering through Rome a few years back, I realized I totally overpacked. I've tried many setups over the years, but I learned the hard way that less is usually more.

  • The thumb grip was honestly a letdown. I spent good money on one, but it kept snagging on my jacket. I eventually just took it off mid-trip and realized the camera feels fine without it.
  • Batteries are the one thing I learned not to skimp on tho. I tried to make do with just one spare, and I ended up stuck in a cafe for two hours just to charge up while the sunset light was perfect outside. It was a total buzzkill.
  • For the bag, I used an old canvas shoulder bag with a padded insert. It looked generic, so no one looked twice at me. Staying low profile is better than any fancy leather.
