Honestly so fed up with these cheap generic thumb grips for my M10. I bought one last month for a street photography trip to Chicago and the thing is so loose it keeps sliding out of the hot shoe every time I pull the camera out of my bag. It feels like absolute garbage and I'm worried it's actually gonna scratch the finish or something. I spent way too much on this body to be dealing with a wobbly piece of metal that doesnt even stay put.
I just want something solid that feels like it belongs on the camera and wont budge. Budget is flexible but I'd like to stay under $150 if possible. Does anyone have recommendations for high-quality thumb grips for the Leica M series that are actually worth the price?
Seriously check out the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX Brass Thumb Grip! Its super solid and wont budge at all. Honestly changed the game for my street shooting, youre gonna love it!
I went through three different brands before I realized why my M10 was feeling so clunky. Most generic grips use a standard 1.5mm rail thickness, but the Leica hot shoe has a very specific tensioning leaf that needs a precise fit to avoid that annoying wobble you're seeing. I actually ended up measuring the shoe depth with calipers because it was driving me crazy. I eventually bit the bullet on the Leica 24015 Thumb Support M10 Black Chrome. Here is what makes it worth the cash in my experience:
My buddy told me the exact same thing last week. Guess he was right lol.

Like someone mentioned, that hot shoe tensioning is the real headache with these M bodies. Honestly, I spent way too much time messing with this myself and felt pretty let down by the whole process. I tried going the budget route with the Haoge THB-M10B Metal Thumb Grip because I just couldnt justify spending 150 bucks on a tiny piece of brass, but unfortunately, it still had that annoying wiggle right out of the box. It was super frustrating and made the whole camera feel cheap. Everyone here is basically right that the official Leica support or the Match Technical ones are the gold standard for fit because they actually account for that leaf spring in the shoe. But if youre like me and hate overpaying, there is a DIY fix that actually works. I eventually just cut a tiny, tiny sliver of black gaffer tape and stuck it to the underside of the grips foot. It sounds kinda ghetto for a Leica, I know, but it tightened the fit perfectly and stopped the sliding. So basically, you either pay the premium for the Match Technical Thumbs Up EP-MX or you get handy with some shims to make a cheaper one work. It really comes down to whether you want a perfect out-of-the-box experience or if you dont mind tinkering a bit to save a hundred dollars. Not as elegant as the factory fit everyone is talking about, but it definitely saved my sanity after my initial disappointment with the cheap stuff.
Nice, didn't know that
