Ugh okay so I am literally about to lose my mind with Amazon right now. I have spent the last three hours picking out all this gear for a camping trip me and four other guys are doing next weekend—we are going up to the Catskills and I am the one designated to buy the communal stuff like the big stove, the heavy duty lanterns, and the bear-proof cooler since I have the Prime account. The total is sitting at like 580 dollars and I just want to send the cart link to the group chat so everyone can double check the items and Venmo me before I hit the buy button. But apparently that is impossible??
I tried just copying the URL from my browser but obviously that just leads to an empty cart for everyone else because it is tied to my specific login session. My logic was that there would just be a share this cart button right there next to the checkout but nope. So then I started googling and I saw people talking about this Share-A-Cart browser extension thing but I really dont want to install some random third-party plugin that can see my shopping data and all that just to do something that should be built-in. Plus my friends are on mobile so they probably couldnt even open it right if they dont have the extension too.
Then I read that I should use the Wish List or Registry feature but honestly that feels so extra for just a one-time purchase? Like I dont want to create a whole public registry for a three-day camping trip just to show people a spatula and some fuel canisters. It feels like such a clunky workaround and I am worried that if they add things from a list it might not go into my specific cart with the same quantities I already set. Plus the price on Amazon changes like every five minutes so I dont want the list to get out of sync with what I am actually seeing.
Is there seriously not just a simple way to get a link? I am getting frustrated because we are on a tight timeline here and I need to order this by tomorrow if it is gonna arrive in time for the drive up. Am I missing a hidden setting or is Amazon just weirdly behind on this one specific thing...
> Is there seriously not just a simple way to get a link? Honestly, its pretty ridiculous that Amazon hasnt built this in yet. I have been using their platform for over a decade and they still force these clunky workarounds like registries. I was very satisfied when I finally started using the share Amazon Cart Extension a while back. It works well and I have no complaints about the accuracy of the transfers. Just a quick warning tho... if you try to use the Wish List method, be extremely careful. I have seen cases where the list doesnt update the price in real-time or friends accidentally buy duplicates because the sync lag is so bad. For a five hundred dollar order, you really dont want those errors. Using a dedicated tool is basically the only way to keep the cart identical for everyone in the group chat without a major headache.
Honestly, Amazon is weirdly behind on this. I think they keep it locked down for security reasons or something... I was pretty satisfied with the Wish List method once I figured it out, even though it's a bit clunky. Not sure if there is a hidden setting, but I have never found one in all my years using Prime. It works well enough for me without feeling like my data is at risk. If you are worried about privacy, maybe try these:
Quick reply while I have a sec... Amazon is basically stuck in 2005 with how they handle carts. The reason your browser link doesnt work is because the cart data is stored in your cookies and server-side session, not the URL itself. It is a security thing so people cant just stumble into your account, but yeah, it sucks for group trips. Since you dont want to deal with registries or sketchy extensions, Cart To Link is probably your best bet here. It just generates a simple link you can text the guys without making them install anything.
