so im trying to sort out my home office upgrade for my birthday next month. found some stuff about third party extensions like share-a-cart but i really dont want some random plugin having access to my amazon account details for security reasons. is there a simple built-in way to just email my cart contents to someone?

Jumping in here because I've spent over a decade managing tech procurement for my home studio. I completely agree with your hesitation regarding third-party extensions. In my experience, giving a random plugin read and change access to your browser is basically a security nightmare waiting to happen. You're right to worry about session hijacking or data scraping when your credit card is linked to that account. I've tried many ways to streamline this for office builds, and I've learned some hard lessons about why the native options are so limited. Here are a few technical details and warnings to keep in mind:

  • Most extensions that claim to share carts work by essentially copying your session cookies. If their database ever gets breached, your entire Amazon account could be compromised.
  • Moving items from your cart to a List to share them can be risky because you might lose clip-on coupons or specific promotional pricing that only applies to cart-active items. I've lost out on gear discounts before just by shifting things around.
  • Print-to-PDF is actually the safest manual way. I just hit Ctrl+P on the cart page and save it as a file. It's clunky, but it maintains the exact price and item specs without risking your login credentials to a third party. It is definitely frustrating that they haven't simplified this yet, but after seeing how many people get their accounts flagged for suspicious activity after using those plugins, staying away from them is the smartest move... ngl, it's just not worth the risk for a few minutes of convenience.

Like someone mentioned, Amazon still hasnt added a native email feature for the cart. As a tech guy, i gotta warn you that many extensions require broad read/write permissions, which is a massive security red flag for your personal data. If you want a cleaner workflow, check out Cart To Link. Its a decent option to generate shareable links without giving a plugin full access to your browser session.

Honestly, I am fairly certain there is no built-in email cart button on Amazon. In my experience buying gear over the years, they really try to keep you locked into their own checkout flow. I think the closest native option is making a public wish list and sharing that, but it is a huge hassle to move everything back and forth. IIRC, some people have had luck with Cart To Link when they want to avoid those sketchy browser extensions that track everything. Not 100% sure if it is exactly what you need, but I have heard good things about it being a cleaner alternative. It is definitely a pain when you just want to show someone your birthday haul without giving up your privacy. Hope you get that office setup dialed in, birthday upgrades are the absolute best.
