I am so confused right now and honestly I feel kind of stupid asking this but I am moving into my first studio on Friday and I need stuff. My mom and my aunt said they want to buy me some things like a toaster and towels because I have zero budget left after the deposit. I tried to just send them a screenshot of my cart but they said they cant click anything? I dont know how this works. I see an option for a wishlist but then I saw something about sharing a cart and now im just annoyed because I dont want them to buy the same thing twice. Is it better to share an Amazon wishlist or a shopping cart so they dont mess it up?

Re: "> Is it better to share an Amazon..." - honestly im not 100% sure about the cart method but I think the wishlist is amazing! Not sure but I heard it manages quantities so you dont get duplicates. Love it! When I moved, I found a public list was fantastic for staying methodical and keeping my budget on track! It makes the whole process so efficient and cost-effective!

Over the years, I have seen so many people try the shopping cart method and it always ends in a mess. Honestly, sharing a cart is technically impossible without giving someone your actual password, which is a huge security risk I would never recommend. In my experience, the wishlist is the only reliable way to go. When I moved into my first place, I tried to keep a manual list and ended up with three sets of identical towels because everyone thought they were being helpful. If you use the wishlist feature, Amazon actually tracks the inventory. Once your aunt buys that toaster, it will show as purchased for your mom so she doesnt grab the same one. It saves so much hassle with returns and awkward conversations. Heres a couple quick tips for your move:

  • Go into the list settings and select Keep purchased items on your list if you want to remember what you got, but keep Don't spoil my surprises turned off if you need to know exactly what is arriving for planning.
  • Double check that your new studio address is set as the default shipping address for that specific list before you send the link out. I've tried many different registry sites but sticking to the native Amazon wishlist is usually the most stable option for older family members who arent super tech-savvy. It keeps things simple for them and much safer for your account.
