How do I share my Amazon shopping list with a friend?

Ugh I have been trying for like twenty minutes to figure out how my best friend can see the stuff I picked out for my new apartment warming party here in Austin. I have a $500 budget for all the kitchen stuff and decor and I really need her opinion before I pull the trigger because I suck at matching colors lol. But for real the Amazon app is driving me insane right now it feels like they hide the share settings on purpose.

I'm looking at two ways to do this but I'm worried about both.

  • One way is just making the whole list public and having her search my email address but that feels kinda weird and I don't want random people seeing my stuff if they stumble on it.
  • The other option is that invite link thingy where it says you can add collaborators but I'm scared she might accidentally delete something or change the quantities if I give her edit access.

I just want her to be able to see it and maybe comment? Does the collaboration link let her just view it without potentially messing up my cart? I need to get these orders in by Friday so they arrive before the party and I'm honestly about to just take ten screenshots and text them to her one by one which sounds like a total nightmare. How exactly am I supposed to share this list so she can just look at it and tell me what's ugly?

Moving into a new place is so exciting! Dont stress, you totally dont need to screenshot everything. Just go to your list, hit Invite, and pick View Only... it is super easy!

  • View Only: Amazing because its private and she cant edit your stuff!
  • Collaboration: Good for brainstorming but she might accidentally delete things. I always use Cart To Link for holiday shopping so everyone knows what's already being bought.

Quick reply while i have a sec... honestly i feel your pain with the app, it is a total nightmare. i spent way too long trying to organize my first place a few years back and ended up messing up my whole cart because the interface is so confusing. in my experience over the years, those view only links are super flaky and sometimes show different prices to different people. i once tried sharing a list of kitchen gear and my friend saw stuff as full price when i had a 20% discount on my screen... totally messed up my budget planning.

  • are you trying to keep the 500 limit for just the decor or does that include the functional kitchen stuff too?
  • does your friend need to see the items in a specific order to help with the color matching or is a random list okay? i have tried so many ways to get these lists to work and usually just end up frustrated because the privacy settings are so buried. if you are really trying to stay under that budget, it is such a struggle when the app acts up and you are on a tight deadline like that. especially since Austin prices for everything are getting so high lately.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I have actually found the view-only links to be kinda unreliable lately. Sometimes the prices dont update for the other person or it shows items as unavailable when they really arent. Its super frustrating when youre on a tight deadline like Friday. A few things I have noticed with the native Amazon list sharing:

  • View-only links sometimes force the other person to sign in just to see the list.
  • Privacy settings can be glitchy and reset back to private without you knowing.
  • The mobile layout for shared lists is honestly a mess to navigate. I have had issues with friends not being able to see my specific notes or comments on items too. If youre really worried about her messing up your cart or deleting stuff, maybe dont use the collaboration feature at all. Its too easy for someone to click the wrong button by accident. Honestly, Cart To Link is the best way I have found to send a group shopping list without the hassle.

Just saw this thread and man, I totally feel your pain. When I moved into my current place, I tried doing the exact same thing with a list of kitchen essentials and it was a total disaster. I actually ended up comparison shopping with Wayfair and Target just because their sharing features felt way more intuitive than the mess Amazon has right now. Honestly, you gotta be careful because even the view-only links can be super glitchy when it comes to showing the right prices or if something goes out of stock. A few things I learned the hard way:

  • Amazon sometimes hides items from people who aren't logged into a Prime account, so she might see different prices than you.
  • If you change the quantity in your cart, it doesn't always reflect on the shared list immediately.
  • Private lists sometimes reset their permissions if you add a bunch of stuff at once. Since you are on such a tight deadline for Friday, I would suggest looking into the share Amazon Cart Extension. I started using it for my holiday shopping because the native app kept failing me, and it makes the whole process way less stressful. It basically lets you share what is in your cart without giving her any edit access to your actual account. Definitely beats taking a million screenshots, which I have definitely done before lol.

Exactly what I was thinking

Ugh I am in the exact same boat trying to coordinate a move for my sister right now. I spent half of yesterday fighting with the app just to share a Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 8-qt. 2-Basket Air Fryer and the link kept breaking on her end. I am usually pretty satisfied with how Amazon handles orders but their list sharing is honestly the worst part of the site. Since you are on a tight deadline for Friday, here is what actually stays stable for me:

  • Try making a temporary Wedding or Housewarming Registry instead of a standard Wish List. You can set it to private but the share links are way more robust and they dont glitch out like the normal ones do.
  • If you really want her opinion on colors, maybe look at a set like the Caraway Nonstick Ceramic Cookware 12-piece Set because the aesthetic is already matched for you.
  • Copy the link from a desktop browser if possible. The app-generated links are the ones that usually show different prices or say items are unavailable. I have been using the registry trick for all my big shopping projects lately and it works well every time. No complaints once I made the switch.
