so i finally grabbed an X-T5 and i'm obsessed with the film sims but my current kit lens isnt doing it for me for the street stuff i want to do. ive been looking at the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 since everyone says its a beast for versatility but then i saw some reddit threads saying its way too heavy for the fuji bodies and ruins the balance. im heading to Tokyo in three weeks and really need something that handles both portraits and the busy streets at night. is the 17-70 actually that clunky on an X-T5 or should i look at something else? my budget is around 800 bucks...

honestly the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Fuji X is a real workhorse but yeah, it feels kinda like a brick on the X-T5. i used it for a while and the image quality is definitely there, especially for those low light night shots in the city, but my wrist definitely felt it after a few hours of walking. since you are heading to tokyo, you are gonna be on your feet a ton and that weight adds up. a couple quick tips for the trip:

  • if you get that lens, definitely grab a cheap thumb grip or a small hand grip for the camera. it helps the balance way more than you would think.
  • keep an eye on the total weight in your shoulder bag because that lens plus the body gets heavy after 15k steps. the constant f2.8 is really nice for those neon portraits tho so it is a safe choice if you can live with the bulk.
