So I finally bit the bullet and grabbed a Canon 90D after shooting on my old Powershot and an AE-1 for literally like fifteen years but man things have changed way more than I thought they would. I thought I knew what I was doing but I opened the box and realized I have basically nothing to actually make this thing work for a real shoot and I'm lowkey panicking because my cousin asked me to do her outdoor wedding photos in Seattle in late October and we all know what that weather is like. I have the kit lens and one battery but that is it. I went on Amazon and got totally overwhelmed by all the different SD card speeds and V-ratings and like... do I actually need a UHS-II card or is that just marketing hype? I dont want the buffer to hang while they're doing the first kiss or whatever because that would be a total nightmare.
Also I'm terrified of getting dust on the sensor so I probably need a cleaning kit but there are so many brands and I don't want to scratch the sensor or the mirror on my first day. I have about 400 bucks left in my budget for everything else and I need to make sure I'm not missing something stupid like a specific filter for the rain or a better strap because the one in the box is already digging into my neck after five minutes of testing it in the backyard. I'm also looking at tripods but they all seem so flimsy or way too expensive and I'm worried about the wind knocking it over if we're near the water. Is a battery grip actually essential for a full day of shooting or can I just carry spares? I just feel like I'm forgetting something crucial that's gonna ruin the whole day because I'm used to just popping in a roll of film or using a point and shoot where everything is built in. I saw some stuff about lens hoods too and I'm wondering if I really need one for the kit lens or if it's just for looks. What are the absolute must-have accessories I need to get before the big day so I dont mess this up?
Congrats on the 90D, tho honestly I found the out-of-box kit is not as good as expected for real gigs. Unfortunately Canon doesnt include a lens hood which is super annoying for Seattle rain.
