I finally pulled the trigger on a GH6 for a big wedding shoot I have coming up next month in Seattle and honestly I am so hyped but also kinda terrified about the storage situation. I was looking at the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards because thats what everyone suggests but then I read a few threads saying they can be hit or miss with the higher bitrates on Panasonic bodies and now Im just staring at my screen confused. My logic was that a V60 card should technically be enough for 4K 10-bit since the math adds up to 480Mbps and the camera maxes around 400 for what I need but some people swear you absolutely must have V90 or the buffer just gives up halfway through the ceremony.
I dont want to drop $200 on a single card if I dont have to since my budget is already stretched thin from buying the lens but I also cant have the camera stop recording during the vows lol. Is there a specific brand that plays nice with the Lumix firmware specifically? I heard some brands have weird compatibility issues with the way Panasonic writes files to the card...
Unfortunately, I have had issues with SanDisk lately; they are not as good as expected for 400Mbps video. For a wedding, I wouldnt trust a V60 card even if the math works on paper. I strongly recommend the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB for reliability... it handles GH6 sustained writes way better than Lexar which tends to overheat.
@Reply #1 - good point! SanDisk has definitely been sketchy with QC lately. If you dont want to go broke on V90s, check out the Kingston Canvas React Plus V90 128GB. It's a total sleeper hit for Lumix and way cheaper than Lexar.
