Which thumb grip and soft release button do you recommend for Fujifilm?

Been shooting Fuji forever but just grabbed an X-Pro3 and the ergonomics feel off. Was looking at Lensmate vs the cheap knockoffs but I'm worried about hot shoe stress. My logic was a soft release helps with the shutter feel but I dont want it snagging. Got about $80 to spend before my Berlin trip next month...

Agree Lensmate is solid, but I used the Haoge THB-X3B Thumb Rest for Fujifilm X-Pro3 while backpacking Japan last year.

  • no hot shoe play
  • fits tight It never budged once.

^ This. Also, unfortunately, I had issues with soft buttons snagging and nearly stripping my shutter threads. Not as good as expected tbh. For your Berlin trip:

Like someone mentioned, that hot shoe stress is something you gotta watch out for. Ive been shooting the X-Pro series since the first one launched, and over the years, Ive realized that some of these accessories look great but actually make the Fujifilm X-Pro3 more annoying to use in the field. I remember being in London a few years back and my soft release button snagged on my jacket lining and basically tried to rip the shutter assembly out. Not fun when you're miles from home. Quick reply while I have a sec... before you spend that cash, I gotta ask: are you planning on keeping the camera in a bag most of the time, or is it gonna be on a strap over your shoulder? Also, what kind of lenses are you mostly taking? Knowing if youre using small primes or heavier glass really changes how much leverage youre actually putting on that thumb rest.

I've been shooting with these rangefinder bodies for a long time and honestly, reliability is the only factor that really matters when you're traveling. I used to worry about my hot shoe constantly until I just committed to quality brands. I'm very satisfied with how my setup feels now.

  • Go with basically any grip from Lensmate and you wont have issues.
  • Just get a simple button from Match Technical if you want that extra tactile feel. I've been using that kind of combination for years and I've had no complaints at all. Everything fits tight, there's no wiggle, and I haven't dealt with any of the snagging problems that people worry about. Its just a solid, dependable way to shoot. Berlin is a great city for an X-Pro, so having gear you can trust makes a huge difference.
