Ugh I am so lost with this new Fujifilm XT5 thing my husband got me. Its way more complicated than my phone and I honestly have no idea where to start with all the extra stuff people say I need. I am trying to get ready for my kids soccer game this weekend here in Seattle and the manual is like a different language. Im super frustrated cause I dont want to miss the shots but I only have like 150 or 200 bucks left to spend on extras for now.

  • need a better strap because the one in the box is scratchy
  • do I need a special memory card?
  • maybe a extra battery?

Sorry if these are stupid questions I just feel so out of my depth here... what is actually essential?

Honestly, dont panic! That camera is a beast but it takes a minute to tame. I've been shooting Fuji for years and trust me, the stock strap is basically sandpaper... nobody uses it. I'd grab the Peak Design Slide Lite Black because the padding is perfect for that camera body. If you want something even smaller, there is the Peak Design Leash Camera Strap, but in my experience, the Slide Lite is way more comfortable for standing on a sideline all day without your neck killing you. For soccer, you're gonna be firing off bursts of photos to catch the action. You really need a card that can keep up or the camera will just lock up while it's thinking. I usually recommend the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II V60 because it's UHS-II, which is way faster than a standard SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC UHS-I V30. The SanDisk is fine for portraits, but for sports? You'll really notice the lag. Lastly, the battery. The X-T5 is better than the old models, but shooting bursts drains it fast. Grab one extra Fujifilm NP-W235 Li-ion Battery. I've tried third-party batteries over the years and they always seem to swell or die early, so just get the real deal. That should put you right around your 200 buck limit and cover the essentials for the weekend. Good luck with the game... hope the Seattle rain stays away!

> what is actually essential? Tbh you definitely need power. Im very satisfied with having a spare Fujifilm NP-W235 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery in my pocket because soccer games mean lots of photos and the screen drains juice fast. Also, look at the Sony SF-M Series Tough UHS-II 128GB card. Its super reliable and tough means it wont break easily if youre swapping them in a rush. Works well for my peace of mind!

Hey, welcome to the Fuji fam! It definitely feels like learning a new language at first lol. Since you are in Seattle and doing sports, you just need stuff that works without breaking the bank. For the strap, the SmallRig Camera Shoulder Strap 2428 is a lifesaver. It is way more comfortable than the scratchy stock one and way cheaper than those big name brands. Regarding the power, the SmallRig NP-W235 USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery is awesome because you can charge it with a regular phone cable in the car on the way to the game... super handy since you wont need a separate bulky charger. Since you are shooting soccer, you will be taking lots of fast bursts. You need a UHS-II card so the camera doesnt freeze up while it saves photos. The Kingston Canvas React Plus SDXC UHS-II 128GB is usually the best value for that specific speed. TL;DR: Get a SmallRig strap for comfort, a USB-C battery for easy charging, and a Kingston UHS-II card so you dont miss the winning goal!
