Need a weather-resistant bag for my X-T5 before a Seattle trip next month. I looked at Peak Design but heard the zippers leak in downpours, and the Wandrd packs look way too bulky for a tiny Fuji kit.

  • budget $150
  • fits body plus 2 lenses
  • actually waterproof

What are you guys using?

^ This. Also, those messengers are cool, but I used the Lowepro Slingshot Edge 250 AW Black for a messy trip last year. Its super budget friendly, basically under $100. I would suggest being careful with the main zipper tho. Make sure to actually pull out the hidden rain cover before it pours or youll end up with damp gear... it saved me a lot of money compared to those pricey boutique bags.

The TPU-coated 1050D nylon on the Chrome Industries Niko Camera Sling 3.0 9L Water Resistant survived a massive storm recently! Everything stayed bone dry, it is amazing for only $130!

Honestly, just be careful with the word waterproof when shopping. Most bags in the $150 range are really just water-resistant, which is a huge difference. I learned the hard way that those fancy rubberized zippers still leak if the rain is coming down sideways or if youre out for more than twenty minutes. One thing people miss is the bottom of the bag. If the base isnt made of something like tarpaulin or thick rubber, moisture is gonna seep through the moment you set it down on a damp sidewalk. Id definitely avoid anything that doesnt come with its own rain cover. Its a bit of a hassle to put on, but its the only way to be 100% sure your gear stays dry in a place like Seattle. Just make sure the cover actually tucks all the way around the back... some of them leave the strap area totally exposed and water just runs down your neck and into the main compartment.
