I just got my first real camera which is a Fujifilm x100vi and I am honestly so scared of dropping it. I saved up for like six months to get this thing and it feels way more slippery than my phone or the old point and shoot my parents had. I was watching some videos on youtube and saw people using these little metal thumb things that go into the top part where the flash usually goes? I think people call them thumb grips or hot shoe grips but there are so many brands and I have no idea which one is actually good or if they even fit the same.
Sorry if this is a super basic thing to ask but I am really confused about the differences between the cheap ones on amazon and the ones that cost like sixty dollars. Like does it actually make that much of a difference? I am going to Japan for two weeks next month and I want to be able to walk around all day with it in my hand without my hand cramping up. I want to take a lot of street photos but right now I feel like I have to squeeze the camera so hard just to keep it steady.
Here is what I am looking for I guess:
I saw one called Lensmate that looked nice but then I saw a cheaper one by JJC and another by Haoge and now I am just stuck. Does the expensive one actually feel better on your thumb or is it just a brand name thing? I dont want to waste money but I also dont want a cheap piece of metal that ruins the look of the camera or scratches it. Also is it hard to take off if I want to use a flash later on? I havent bought a flash yet but maybe someday. Just wondering what you guys actually use daily...
You gotta grab the JJC TA-X100VI Thumbs Up Grip Silver Aluminum! Its honestly fantastic and the specs match the camera body perfectly. Its precision CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminum so the tolerances are super tight.
Regarding what #2 said about safety, definitely check the SmallRig Thumb Grip for Fujifilm X100VI 4571. It balances the cost and quality points discussed perfectly while matching that silver finish you wanted.
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
Just saw this thread. Before you buy anything, are you planning on using a neck strap or a wrist strap while you're in Japan? A thumb grip is great for stability but it wont stop the camera from hitting the pavement if someone bumps into you on a crowded train. Honestly though, I'm really happy with the Lensmate Fujifilm X100VI Folding Thumb Grip Silver. It costs a bit more but the folding mechanism is super handy for reaching the back dials without it getting in the way. It matches the silver finish perfectly and has a little rubber bit so it doesnt scratch the finish. If that's too pricey, the Haoge THB-X100V Thumb Up Rest Silver is a really solid alternative that feels way more premium than the generic Amazon stuff. It fits tight and wont wiggle around when you're walking all day.
Can vouch for this
