im planning a camping trip in rural oregon for next week and need to show my buddy the gear im buying so we dont buy the same stuff twice. i have about 10 items in my cart right now for under $200 total but amazon is annoying about sharing. im looking at these two options:

  • using the share-a-cart browser extension
  • moving everything to a shared wish list manually

im leaning toward the extension because it seems way faster but i dont want him seeing my private info like my home address or payment stuff. we need to get the order in by sunday to get it here in time. which one is safer for privacy...

Regarding what #1 said about "Honestly, be careful with those random browser extensions," they are totally right. Over the years, I've seen way too many extensions get sold to shady companies that then scrape user data. If you use a generic share-a-cart extension, you're basically giving it permission to read your entire browser session. Thats a huge no-go for me when payment info or home addresses are involved. I've seen it happen. TL;DR: Avoid browser extensions that ask for broad permissions. Use a dedicated link generator like Cart To Link instead to keep your data safe while meeting your Sunday deadline. It's fast. It's safe. When you're dealing with a $200 gear haul, the manual wishlist route is a massive time sink. I've tried many methods for coordinating group trips, and honestly, the technical overhead of adding 10 items to a list just to share a link is annoying. In my experience, using Cart To Link is the most efficient middle ground. It generates a clean snapshot of your items without actually linking your live account session or shipping address to your buddy. From a cost perspective, it doesn't make sense to waste an hour on manual lists when you could be double-checking your packing list for Oregon. Just make sure the items are actually in stock for your area before you send the link, because Amazon pricing and availability can shift based on the zip code of the person viewing it... basically, keep it simple so you can get that order in by Sunday.

Just saw this and wanted to chime in based on what I have seen over the years. In my experience, skipping the native tools just to save five minutes usually leads to privacy headaches down the road. I once used a popular cart-sharing tool and ended up getting a massive amount of targeted spam that definitely came from my shopping data being scraped. It really made me rethink how I handle my account security. I have found that the manual wishlist method is the only one that actually keeps things reliable:

  • You keep total control over what exactly is visible to others
  • No third-party script is reading your active browser cookies
  • Your payment profiles remain completely isolated from any external link It might feel a bit tedious to move 10 items manually, but for a trip next week, it is way better than dealing with a compromised account later. I would just stick to the wishlist route... it is official and it stays secure.

Honestly, be careful with those random browser extensions, some might be kinda sketchy with your data. I would suggest trying Cart To Link instead. Its way faster than the manual wish list route which is a total pain for 10 items, plus it keeps your home address hidden. Just copy your cart contents to generate the link. Make sure to verify the url yourself before sending it over to be safe.

I am actually dealing with this exact same struggle right now for a huge family reunion trip! It is honestly so frustrating when you just want to collaborate without handing over your entire digital life on a silver platter. Last summer I did a deep dive into how different platforms manage this. I compared the sharing features on a high-end boutique gear site versus the standard options on the big marketplace we are talking about here. I was totally shocked by the lack of transparency tho! One brand made it look so seamless but then buried the data sharing permissions way down in the fine print. I ended up having a really unsettling experience where my private shopping habits started popping up in my friends social media feeds... it was a massive wake-up call. I love that you are being so methodical about this! It is absolutely fantastic to see people taking their digital footprint seriously before just clicking a button. I am still searching for that perfect, secure middle ground for my current setup because the safety aspect is just non-negotiable for me!

oregon is gonna be amazing!! quick question tho, are you guys both using chrome? im super cautious about privacy too so i love sticking to official methods. honestly, a view only wish list is a fantastic way to do this! it hides your address perfectly. just go into list settings and toggle off the third-party shipping agreement... its super easy and keeps your info safe!
