I have this huge wedding gig next weekend in Chicago and I'm honestly panicking because I just realized my old third-party flashes are acting super weird with my new Canon R6 Mark II. I've been a DSLR user forever and the transition to the R series has been mostly smooth but the lighting situation is stressing me out. I was looking into the Canon EL-1 because everyone says it's the gold standard but honestly who has $1000 for a single flash right now?? Its totally out of my budget since I just spent a fortune on the body and some RF glass.

Then I saw a bunch of people online recommending the Godox V1 or the V860III because they're way cheaper but then I read some horror stories on Reddit about the pins on the hot shoe getting stuck or the autofocus assist beam not working properly with mirrorless sensors because of the way the AF works now. Is that still a thing or did they fix it with a firmware update or something? I'm worried about the communication between the camera and the flash being glitchy during the ceremony. I need something that is actually reliable and wont overheat after twenty minutes of shooting reception photos. I literally have five days to get this delivered to my house before I have to leave for the venue. What are you guys actually using on your R5s or R6s that doesn't break the bank but also doesn't feel like a toy?

Yeah, that EL-1 price tag is pure insanity. I've been using the Godox V1-C Li-ion Round Head Flash for Canon on my R6 for a while and honestly... it's mostly fine. You gotta be careful with the hot shoe mount tho, I've seen some pins get bent if you're too aggressive. The AF assist won't work on mirrorless, but the R6 internal AF is usually fast enough anyway. I'd suggest picking it up for the fast recycle times.
