So Ive been saving up for months now to finally get a decent mirrorless setup before my big trip to Japan this August. I really want the Fujifilm X-T5 but man the price just wont budge or it goes up and down like a rollercoaster and I keep missing the actual deals. Im trying to stay around $1700 for the body and maybe a kit lens if I get lucky but every time I check it seems to be back at full retail or out of stock. I started looking into price trackers because I work a 9-5 and I cant just sit on my phone refreshing tabs all day while I'm at my desk.

I did some digging and found CamelCamelCamel which people swear by but it only tracks Amazon prices and honestly I dont always trust buying high end glass or bodies from Amazon because of the shipping horror stories and those weird third party sellers that might be grey market stuff. Then I checked out PriceSpy but it feels a bit clunky and I noticed it misses a lot of the big dedicated photo retailers like Adorama or B&H Photo and those are the places where I actually want to spend my money since they have better customer service for camera gear usually.

I just want something that will actually ping my phone or send an email the second a real store drops the price not just Amazon shifting by five cents every hour. Is there like a specific site that photographers use that covers the specialty stores? I heard something about Keepa too but that also seems very Amazon focused and I really need to track the whole market because I dont want to get ripped off or buy at the peak right before a big summer sale hits.

Are there any reliable ones that track the major photo-specific sites too or am I just dreaming?

Re: "I have been very satisfied with the B&H..."

  • Totally agree with that. I've been really happy using specialized alerts lately, honestly makes life way easier when you're working a 9-5. Before I give you my full list of recommendations tho, are you set on buying brand new? Or would you be open to "Open Box" or "Mint" used gear from reputable shops? That makes a huge difference in which trackers actually work. A few things to watch out for while you're looking:
  • Avoid any site that lists the X-T5 for like $1300. It's usually a bait-and-switch where they'll call you after the order to sell you the battery and charger separately.
  • Keep an eye on MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policies. Some stores can only show the real discount once you add the item to your cart.
  • Make sure the tracker you use can distinguish between "International Version" and US warranty stock. It's definitely doable if you're patient...

Omg youre so right about those alerts! I had such an amazing win with my current setup after watching prices for ages. Honestly used to worry about getting scammed by shady sites, but I found that PriceDropCatch really helped me stay safe while waiting for a real drop at an authorized dealer. It felt so good finally clicking buy knowing I wasnt paying full price but still getting that legit warranty!

I have been very satisfied with the B&H price tracker for my gear. Just watch for bait-and-switch sites though... those low prices are often grey market and wont have a warranty.
