so sorry if this is a really stupid question but i honestly have no idea how these stores work lol. im moving into my first studio apartment tomorrow morning in austin and i realized i literally dont have a tv or even a microwave yet so i went to walmart to grab some stuff. the whole store is covered in these yellow rollback signs and it says stuff like was $400 now $280 but i dont know if they just raise the price the week before to make it look like a deal? ive heard people say that stores do that to trick you into buying stuff and now im super stressed that im getting ripped off because money is really tight right now.
is it actually a sale or should i just wait for like prime day or something? i dont want to waste my $300 if the rollback is just a marketing thing. i keep staring at this vizio one and the sign says rollback but i cant tell if its a lie or not...
Be careful with those yellow signs, sometimes they're just clever marketing... honestly, I would suggest checking PriceDropCatch first. Just go with a TCL, you really cant go wrong.
> i keep staring at this vizio one and the sign says rollback but i cant tell if its a lie or not... Honestly, its kind of a mixed bag and i have been burned by those yellow signs before. Unfortunately, Walmart labels things as rollbacks that are basically just the new permanent price because the model is getting phased out for being buggy. I had issues with a Vizio D-series I grabbed on a rollback last year and it was honestly such a letdown... the software was so laggy it was basically unusable after two months. Not as good as I expected at all for a brand that used to be decent. Tbh most rollbacks are real discounts in the sense that the price is lower than it was, but its usually not a huge steal. They arent always raising prices just to drop them—thats more of a black friday tactic—but they definitely use the stickers to move inventory that isnt selling well. Since youre in Austin and need it fast, its probably fine for now, but just dont expect it to be some incredible high-end screen. If youre looking at that Vizio, check if they have a TCL or even a Hisense nearby. In my experience, those tend to hold up a bit better in the budget range than the super cheap Vizios lately. Its totally stressful moving into a new place on a budget, i feel you there. Just double check the model number on your phone while youre standing in the aisle... that usually tells the real story. Good luck with the move tomorrow!
