I just got a Sony a6400 and I am so hyped to finally take decent photos!! But I realized I definitely need a tripod for my trip to Kyoto next month so I can get those night shots of the temples. Im super new to all this so sorry if this is a dumb question but what even makes a tripod a travel one? I was looking online and some are tiny and some look huge. I was thinking maybe the Peak Design one but its like $600? My budget is more like $120 lol. My logic was just buy whatever is cheap on Amazon but then I worried it might tip over and break my camera... are there specific ones that work better for Sony cameras or does it not matter? Total noob here please help...

I wasted so much money on generic Amazon tripods that just rattled... it was honestly so disappointing. For $120, you can get something solid that wont fail.

Totally agree, cheap gear is risky. I'm satisfied with my Vanguard VEO 3T 204AB Aluminum Travel Tripod because it works well for the price. It survived a windy mountain trip without any issues.

Unfortunately, I have found that budget tripods often fail during actual use.

  • unstable leg locks
  • flimsy mounting plates Cheaper gear usually results in blurry photos or equipment damage.

Solid advice 👍
