Which gimbal should I actually get for my Sony a7IV before my sisters wedding in three weeks?? Im seriously torn between the DJI RS 3 and the RS 3 Mini and its stressing me out because I have tiny wrists and usually shoot for like 6+ hours at a time but I also use the heavy 24-70mm f2.8 lens so I dont know if the Mini can handle that setup without shaking like crazy. The RS 3 seems safer for the weight but its so much heavier and my budget is strictly under 500 bucks right now. Is the extra stability of the standard RS 3 worth the pain or am I gonna regret it by hour four of the reception...

I've seen motors burn out from front-heavy glass. Be careful. I'd suggest the FeiyuTech SCORP-C 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer instead of the Moza Air 2S 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal.

  • Feiyu: ergonomic handle
  • Moza: high payload Feiyu saves wrists.

I've been in that exact spot with the a7IV and a front-heavy 24-70mm... it's a nightmare for the wrists after a few hours. A few years back, I tried to push a smaller setup for a long-form documentary shoot and the motors just couldn't handle the torque needed for that specific glass. The vibrations basically ruined half the footage. I ended up switching to the DJI RSC 2 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer which you can find for under 400 bucks these days. It really bridges the gap between the Mini and the RS3 without blowing the budget.

  • DJI RSC 2: Good folding design and handles 6.6 lbs easily. Much better motor torque for that 24-70mm than the Mini. It's a bit heavier than the Mini tho.
  • Zhiyun Crane 2S 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer: Very reliable motors for front-heavy kits. It's a total tank but it's pretty beefy so you'll definitely feel it by the four-hour mark. If you go with something heavier to save the motors, maybe look into a SmallRig Gimbal Shoulder Strap. It helps take the load off your wrists during those long reception gaps. Honestly, the extra motor strength of the RSC 2 is a safer bet than the Mini struggling with your lens's center of gravity... you dont want to be fighting the gear while trying to capture the ceremony.

Honestly, I had issues with the DJI RS 3 Mini 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer when using heavy glass like that 24-70mm. It is super light for your wrists but unfortunately it just isnt as good as expected for balancing front-heavy setups... those motors start vibrating way too fast for my liking. Since you're doing a 6-hour marathon, the standard DJI RS 3 3-Axis Gimbal is way more stable, but it's definitely gonna kill your arms and its usually over your budget anyway.

  • RS 3 Mini: Great for portability, but honestly feels flimsy with the a7IV combo.
  • Standard RS 3: Rock solid stability but feels like a workout after hour two.
  • Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal: Has a wrist rest that actually helps with fatigue. It sucks that there isnt a perfect cheap option for heavy lenses, but dont stress too much. Youll kill it at the wedding!
