What gimbal are you guys using for the a7 IV that actually stays stable when you're moving fast? I've been shooting for five years and used the original Ronin-S forever, but I just upgraded to the a7 IV and my old setup is struggling with the weight of the 24-70mm GM II. It keeps jittering on the roll axis even after a perfect balance and autotune.

I'm shooting a big outdoor wedding in Chicago in three weeks so I need something that won't fail me mid-ceremony. Budget is about 600 bucks but I can stretch it for the right gear. Is the RS3 Pro overkill or should I just get the standard RS3? Or maybe Zhiyun? Im lost...

I actually went through this exact same headache last year during a marathon shoot! My old rig was vibrating like crazy and it was such a total nightmare. I upgraded to the DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal Stabilizer and man, it is absolutely amazing. For that Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II lens, you definitely want the Pro version over the standard RS3. The extra motor torque makes a massive difference when youre moving fast or tracking a subject. Here is why the Pro is worth it:

  • Extended carbon fiber arms give way more physical clearance for the bulky a7 IV body.
  • The 4.5kg payload means the motors arent working at max capacity just to keep things level.
  • Automated axis locks are a total game changer when youre running between wedding venues. Seriously, just stretch the budget for the Pro... it makes the Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera feel like it is literally floating on air!

Try the Zhiyun Crane 4 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal instead. It is super stable for heavy glass.

  • High payload limit
  • Balance indicators Definitely wont fail you mid-shoot if you balance it right.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'm not totally sure you actually need to spend all that extra cash on the pro version! I think the DJI RS 3 is a fantastic value and honestly it should handle that lens combo perfectly fine. Someone told me the motors are plenty for that setup anyway. Save your money for extra batteries... you'll need them for a long Chicago wedding day!! It's gonna be amazing, you've got this!
