I finally bit the bullet and got a Sigma fp for my trip to Tokyo next month and man im so stoked to start shooting with this tiny beast but holding it is honestly like trying to hold a wet bar of soap lol. It is way smaller than I expected in person which is great for travel but I feel like I'm gonna drop it every five minutes.
I did a bunch of reading and everyone says to get a SmallRig cage or the official Sigma handgrip but then I saw some reviews saying the cage totally ruins the point of having a tiny camera in the first place which is why I bought it! I really want to keep the footprint small but I also need to attach a mic and maybe a better way to see the screen in daylight since the fixed screen seems like it might be a pain.
My budget for extras is around 300 bucks right now. I looked at the LVF-11 viewfinder too but it looks massive in photos like it might make the whole thing too bulky for street photography which is my main goal. Should I go for a thumb grip instead or is a cage actually worth the extra weight for video? I just dont want to turn this sleek little thing into a giant rig if I dont have to...
I was super worried about dropping mine too but the Sigma HG-11 Large Handgrip works well without adding much bulk. If you need a mic though, Im really satisfied with the SmallRig Cage for Sigma fp CCM2518 because it adds a lot of safety and mounting points. The Sigma LVF-11 LCD Viewfinder is great for glare but way too big for casual street shooting imo.
Unfortunately the screen is not as good as expected in bright sun. TL;DR: Get the SmallRig Sun Hood for Sigma fp VH2481 and Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap Black for safety.
