Whats the absolute best travel tripod for a Panasonic G9 that wont break the bank or my back? Im heading out to the Dolomites in late October for a week of hiking and I really need something that can handle the weight of the G9 plus the 12-60mm Leica lens without wobbling every time the wind blows.

Ive been looking at the Peak Design aluminum one because everyone talks about how small it packs down but honestly 350 dollars feels like a lot for a tripod that some people say isnt even that stable at full height. Then I saw the Benro MeFoto Roadtrip Pro which is way cheaper and seems more versatile but I read a few forum posts saying the twist locks are a nightmare if you get any dirt or sand in them and Im gonna be out in the muck quite a bit.

The G9 is kinda chunky for an MFT camera so I dont want something flimsy thats meant for like a phone or a tiny point and shoot. My budget is strictly under 300 bucks if possible. Is there a middle ground Im missing? Maybe something from Sirui or Manfrotto that actually fits in a carry-on? I just need it to be light enough for 10 mile hikes but beefy enough for 30 second exposures at sunrise...

I was pretty disappointed with the Manfrotto Befree Advanced Aluminum Travel Tripod with Ball Head because the head creeps under the G9 weight. Honestly, check out The Center Column website for actual stability rankings... its a lifesaver. Look into the Leofoto LS-224C Ranger Series Carbon Fiber Tripod with LH-25 Ball Head instead. Since it lacks a center column, its way stiffer in high winds. Quick tip: always hang your camera bag from the apex hook for extra stability.

I eventually settled on the Vanguard VEO 3T 235ABP Aluminum Travel Tripod with Ball Head and Im really satisfied with how it handles the Leica lens. I carried it all over Glacier Park last fall and it stayed rock solid for sunrise shots... it even survived a bit of muck. Folds down small for my bag and saved me a ton of cash compared to the PD stick.
