Finally jumped to the X-T5 after years with the X-T2 and man that 40MP sensor is a whole different beast. Im heading to Tokyo in three weeks and just realized my old SD cards are way too slow for the new burst rates plus the files are massive. I have about 300 bucks left for extras and I'm trying to figure out what's actually necessary for a heavy street photography trip. Is a dedicated dual charger worth the space or should I just stick to USB-C charging? Also really curious if people are using thumb grips since the body feels a bit small. What are your non-negotiable travel accessories for this thing?

Like someone mentioned, ports break. I would suggest a SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 over a thumb grip tho. It is cheaper and feels way more secure for Tokyo street walks.

Honestly, speed is the main priority with that sensor. Those 40MP files will definitely choke a slow card if you're burst shooting. Picking up a couple of SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-II 128GB V60 cards is probably the smartest move. You dont really need V90 speeds for street photography, so saving money there is a good call. For charging, a dedicated Fujifilm BC-W235 Dual Battery Charger is better for travel because you can top off two batteries overnight without leaving your camera tethered to a wall. It just makes the morning routine easier. As for the feel, the body is a bit small for big hands. A SmallRig Thumb Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 helps a lot with stability when you're weaving through crowds in Tokyo. It keeps the setup lightweight but gives your thumb a solid place to rest.

USB-C charging works, but honestly be cautious about putting daily stress on that port. Don't rely on it too much; it is a common failure point. A separate charger is better for reliability. For handling:

  • A thumb grip reduces fatigue during long sessions.
  • Use a screen protector since that LCD gets bumped in crowds.
  • A wrist strap offers better security. Watch the humidity; keep some silica packets in your bag.
