so i just dropped a ton of cash on the x-h2s for a commercial shoot next week in miami and im lowkey panicking about the rig setup. i spent hours looking at cages and stuff online.
i saw a bunch of people saying the smallrig is the way to go but then other folks are swearing by the tilta because of that dedicated cooling fan attachment. miami is gonna be like 90 degrees so i really dont want the camera overheating mid-shoot but then i heard the fan is kinda loud and might ruin my audio... i have about 800 bucks left for accessories like a top handle and monitor too. is the fan actually necessary for pro work or can i get away without it if i stick to the smallrig? i really need to get this ordered today so it arrives in time...
> miami is gonna be like 90 degrees so i really dont want the camera overheating mid-shoot but then i heard the fan is kinda loud and might ruin my audio... I've been in that exact spot, specifically shooting a car commercial in Florida humidity with zero shade. The Tilta Cooling System for Fujifilm X-H2S was something I bought for that trip. It definitely keeps the sensor from melting during long 4K60 takes, but the buzz is real if you are relying on an on-camera mic for scratch audio. If you go with the SmallRig 3927 Full Cage for Fujifilm X-H2S, you get a way more modular setup for less money. Over the years, I found that just using an external monitor like the Atomos Ninja V 5-inch 4K Monitor solves most heat issues since you aren't taxing the internal processor for the display as much. For $800, you can grab the cage, a top handle, and that monitor. Tbh, unless you are doing 30-minute continuous takes in direct sun, you can probably skip the fan.
In my experience, that fan is necessary for Miami. I've tried many and the Fujifilm FAN-001 Cooling Fan is way better than the Tilta one because its powered by the body directly.
