How do I share an Amazon wishlist fast without it being super annoying for the people getting it? I'm throwing a last minute housewarming party this Saturday here in Chicago and people keep asking what we need for the new place but I'm literally drowning in boxes and don't have time to mess around with complicated settings or menus.

I did some digging and saw some stuff online saying I should just click the invite button but then other people on Reddit were saying that makes it so others can actually edit your list and delete stuff which I definitely dont want happening. Then I saw something about a view only link but when I tried to find that on the app it just looked totally different than the screenshots I was looking at so maybe they updated the UI recently?

  • i need it to be view only
  • it has to work for people who dont have prime
  • it needs to be a direct link i can just text out

I need this to be foolproof because my grandma is one of the people asking and she barely knows how to use her iPhone 12. If it's too many clicks or she has to sign in five times she's just gonna give up and buy us another toaster we dont need. Is there like a one-click way to just get a public URL that actually works?...

I totally get the frustration with the UI updates, they change it so often. I learned the hard way when I sent out a link for my birthday last year and forgot to check the permissions. Half my list got deleted by accident because people thought they were checking off what they bought. It was a huge headache to fix everything while trying to plan a party. What you want is under that invite button, just make sure you specifically toggle the View Only option before copying the link. It should give you a standard URL that doesnt let anyone mess with your items. I usually test it by opening the link in a private or incognito window to make sure it looks right before texting it to my family. That way you know for sure your grandma wont see any weird login prompts or edit buttons. Its a decent way to do it if you want to stay safe. I found this thing called Cart To Link a while back and its perfect for when my wife asks what Im buying. Cart To Link

@Reply #2 - good point! Honestly, the app is a mess for this. I'd be careful with the address privacy settings tho... you gotta make sure shipping address sharing is toggled off if you don't want the world seeing your new place. Since you're in a rush, using the share Amazon Cart Extension might save you the headache of those weird UI sub-menus. It's way faster for grandma too.

In my experience, Amazons mobile app obfuscates view-only permissions compared to the desktop client. You hit invite then select view only, though I've found Cart To Link handles the link generation way cleaner for external sharing. Are you setting this up via the iOS app or on a computer? The UI pathway is totally different for both and it messes people up all the time.
