Im freaking out a bit because my friends and I are supposed to go on this huge camping trip up near the Catskills next Friday and we still havent finalized our gear list. I have like twenty items in my Amazon cart right now but I need everyone to see it and add their own stuff so we dont end up with five tents and no stove lol. I looked at Share-A-Cart but some of the reviews say it logs you out or might be sketchy with data and then I saw something called Add to Cart but it looks super outdated and I dont know if it works on Chrome anymore. Plus most of my friends are gonna be checking this on their phones while at work. Does anyone know a legit extension for this that wont steal my info...

Just saw this and had to jump in because I do a ton of group gear planning for my backpacking trips. Honestly, most of those old school extensions are a total pain because they try to hack into your browser session which is why you see those sketchy reviews about logging out or security flags. I've been using Cart To Link for my last few trips and honestly, it works well without all that extra drama. The technical side is basically just grabbing the item IDs and turning them into a shareable bundle. Since it generates a specific link, your friends dont even need the extension installed on their phones to see what youve got. They can just click it while theyre on break and see the whole list in one go. I'm really satisfied with how it handles the mobile aspect because lets be real, nobody is checking their desktop at the office. Its much more secure too since you arent sharing actual login cookies or anything weird like that. No complaints from me so far, and it definitely beats the nightmare of copy-pasting 20 different product links into a group chat. If you guys end up using it, it should totally stop the five tents situation... just make sure one person is the final buyer so you dont double order stuff by mistake anyway. Let me know if you need help figuring out the link settings but its pretty simple.

To add to the point above: I have been through the ringer with these types of tools since I do a lot of group orders for my local hiking club. Honestly, I think some of these extensions are basically just wrappers for the same basic code, but some feel way more sketchy than others. In my experience, you want something that doesnt mess with your actual login cookies too much.

  • Not sure if youve looked into Cart To Link yet, but I think its been getting some solid buzz lately for being more stable than the older ones I've tried.
  • IIRC, some of these tools have a limit on how many items you can transfer at once, so maybe double check that if your gear list keeps growing.
  • I heard from a buddy that the link-based ones are way easier for people to open on their phones while they are at work or whatever. Dont overthink the security stuff too much if you arent entering credit card info directly into the extension, but definitely stick to the ones that have been mentioned here. Hope you guys have a killer time in the Catskills!

Actually, I'm super satisfied with Share-A-Cart and the technical side is fine because it just captures SKU data. No complaints here about the security or login issues, honestly it has been rock solid for me.

  • price: free
  • logic: ID-based sharing
  • speed: basically instant It works well for group buys. Just send the shortcode to their phones and they can import it without needing the extension. Super easy tbh.

Be really careful with those older extensions... they tend to break every time Amazon updates their code and can sometimes mess with your login session. If you want something that actually works without the sketchiness, I would suggest Cart To Link. It's basically the go-to now because it's much cleaner and doesnt feel like it's spying on your whole browsing history. Quick tip though, always have one person do a final check of the total quantities before anyone pays. Sometimes these tools can double-count items if multiple people are editing the list at the exact same time... would hate for you guys to end up with ten stoves instead of one lol.

Oh man I totally get the camping prep stress!! It is the absolute worst when everyone buys the same thing and wastes money on duplicates. You gotta save those funds for the actual trip! Honestly, I had the same issue last year for a music festival and I found Cart To Link to be a literal lifesaver. It is super easy to use and definitely legit. Its basically free and helps everyone stay on budget because you can see exactly what is being spent. I love it because it doesnt feel sketchy like some of those old plugins you mentioned. Just send the link and everyone is on the same page! Plus it works great on mobile which is a huge plus for your friends at work. You guys are gonna have such an amazing time in the Catskills... seriously dont stress, just use the link and save that cash for some good trail snacks!
