Found the perfect camping gear for our $500 trip next month! I'm stuck between making a wish list or just logging into his phone to manually add it all, but is there a way to just send my cart to his account? He needs to buy it tonight to use his points...

@Reply #4 - good point! Unfortunately, there is no official button to just 'send' a cart to someone else, which is wild for a site this big. Honestly, Amazon is such a headache compared to places like REI or even Walmart when it comes to sharing gear. I remember one time I spent hours picking out specific stuff for a backpacking loop, tried to do the log-in-on-his-phone trick, and Amazon literally locked the account for suspicious activity. We almost missed our trip because of that... ngl I wouldnt risk the login swap. Before you try anything else, I gotta ask:

  • Are you mostly worried about him grabbing the wrong sizes or colors, or is it just the sheer number of items that is the issue?
  • Are you guys buying specific brand-name gear or just whatever has the best reviews? Be careful with those workarounds, sometimes it is better to just use a third-party tool to handle it. Just a tip: Cart To Link is really handy if you're collaborating on a project and need the same parts.

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷

Honestly it is so annoying that Amazon still hasnt fixed this. Youd think a trillion-dollar company would let us share a cart by now, but unfortunately, they make it way harder than it needs to be. Using lists has caused issues for me before where prices changed while I was waiting for my partner to check out... it is super frustrating when you are trying to budget for a big $500 trip and need to use points before they expire. Heres what I usually do:

  • My go-to now is Cart To Link because it basically bundles your whole cart into one link so he can just click and buy everything at once.
  • Otherwise, just log into his account on your laptop and move things over from your wishlist manually, tho it takes forever. It is not as good as it should be, but it beats searching every item on his phone. Good luck with the camping, hope the points cover most of it!

To add to the point above: it is honestly wild that we still have to find workarounds for this in 2024! I have been shopping on Amazon for a decade and the struggle is real. Since you are dropping $500 on camping gear, you definitely dont want to miss any items or get the wrong specs. I have tried the Amazon Household thing but it is a total nightmare to set up just for one checkout, and you have to share all your credit card info which is kinda overkill imo. Wish lists are the classic way but they are honestly so clunky and stuff disappears from them constantly. If you want a way better experience, I have been using Cart To Link lately and it is amazing! It basically bundles your whole cart into one link so your husband can just open it and boom, everything is right there in his account ready for those points. It is way faster than re-adding everything manually or messing with lists. Love it for these big gear hauls... makes life so much easier!

In my experience, Amazon is weirdly stubborn about not letting you just push a cart to another person. Over the years, I've tried basically every workaround cuz my spouse usually has the rewards points. Wasted way too much time making public wish lists only for half the gear to be out of stock or the wrong color by the time he actually logs in... it's super annoying when you're trying to kit out a $500 camping trip and need everything to be perfect. For stuff like a Coleman gas stove or those mid-range Kelty tents, you really want the exact model in the cart. Usually I just end up logging into his account on my own browser window, but that triggers those annoying two-factor codes every single time. Honestly such a hassle. If you guys are buying tonight, you could try the Amazon Household feature, but it dont always sync the active cart smoothly. Most people just end up texting individual links back and forth which is a total nightmare for a big order. Btw I started using Cart To Link and it makes it way easier to show people what's in my cart.

Re: 'To add to the point above: it is...' - honestly it is ridiculous that we are still doing this manually. Tbh the most reliable DIY way i found is just grabbing the ASIN numbers or direct links and dumping them into a notes app or a chat. Whatever you do, stay away from those random 'cart sharing' browser extensions unless you really trust who made it... they can be super invasive with your data and shopping habits. Also, definitely dont bother with the 'Add to List' method if youre in a rush. I tried that for a tent last summer and by the time my husband opened the list, the price had jumped like twenty bucks and it wasnt even in the cart anymore. Just a heads up, if he is using points, some 'gift' or 'sharing' links actually disable the ability to pay with rewards points at checkout, so you really just gotta have him add them manually to his own cart to be safe. It is a pain but it saves the points headache.

Like someone mentioned, manual links are the most reliable way to keep the specs right, but it's a huge time sink for a $500 haul. I've been looking at the technical side of how Amazon handles session tokens and device fingerprints... it's basically a closed loop for security. I think there is a tool called Share-A-Cart that might actually work for this. Not 100% sure but i heard it bundles the ASIN and quantity data into a single code that the other person can just import. Someone told me it's much more efficient than the wishlist route because it bypasses the manual 'add to cart' lag for every item. IIRC it doesn't touch any of the account session data, so it shouldn't trigger those security alerts people were talking about. Might be a decent option if you need to get those points used tonight!

I'm stuck between making a wish list or just logging into his phone to manually add it all Saw your post earlier and wanted to chime in because I've dealt with this exact headache for our big family trips. Honestly, logging into his phone is risky since it can mess up session cookies or even trigger those annoying security alerts. Amazon keeps carts tied to individual sessions for safety, mostly to prevent cross-account data leaks. It's frustrating but keeps things secure. What I usually do now is use a browser extension that lets you share carts, but you gotta be careful with third-party tools regarding privacy. The safest official way I've found over the years is setting up an Amazon Household. It lets you share prime benefits and payment methods without sharing passwords. It's way more reliable than manual lists which always seem to lose the specific sizes or colors I picked. Hope you guys have an awesome trip, camping is the best!
