so i feel really dumb asking this but i cant for the life of me figure out how to just send my whole amazon cart to my roommate. we are trying to get our dorm stuff together before move in day in two weeks and we have like 500 dollars worth of stuff like lamps and a mini fridge in there.

i was looking for a share button but its just not there? my logic was maybe i could just copy the link at the top but that probably wont work since its my account. is there a way to do this without giving her my password? i dont wanna mess anything up...

It is actually kinda wild that Amazon still hasn't added a native share button for the cart after all these years. I have been through the dorm move-in process more times than I can count, and honestly, trying to copy the URL just sends your roommate to an empty page since it is all tied to your specific login. I would suggest being very careful about sharing passwords tho... even if you trust her, it is just bad practice for your account security. You might want to consider using a tool like the share Amazon Cart Extension to handle this. I have used it for group orders in the past and it is much more methodical than manually adding fifty items to a wish list one by one. For the big stuff like the mini fridge, I would suggest going with a reliable brand like Frigidaire. You basically cant go wrong with their compact appliances for a dorm setting. Just make sure to measure your space twice because those rooms are always tiny. Also, be careful with the electronics and lighting. I would suggest grabbing a power strip from a brand like Anker or Belkin. It is better to have that extra layer of protection for your gear. Move-in day is usually pretty chaotic so having everything ready in one shared cart makes things way easier... just definitely avoid sending your login credentials over text or anything like that.

I have been looking into how Amazon handles session data for years, and yeah, that URL in your browser is just a reference to your specific account session. If you send it to her, she just gets an empty cart because her browser cookies do not match your auth token. Honestly, you should be careful about trying to bypass this with any weird browser extensions that ask for your login info. The most stable workaround for a huge 500 dollar haul is definitely the Wish List route, but specifically a collaborative one. Here is what I would suggest doing to keep your account secure:

  • Go to Account and Lists and create a new list. Name it something like Dorm Gear.
  • Click on the Invite button at the top right of the list page.
  • Select the View and Edit option so your roommate can actually add her own stuff too.
  • Go back to your cart and use the Move to list link under every item like the mini fridge and lamps. It takes a second but it is way more reliable than sending a bunch of links. One thing to watch out for... make sure to verify the shipping address on her end before she hits checkout. Amazon can sometimes default to the last used address and you dont want your fridge ending up at her parents house by mistake. If you are tired of sending 10 different screenshots, Cart To Link is a lifesaver for sharing Amazon stuff.

Regarding what #2 said about how Amazon handles sessions, it is true the cart itself is locked down, but I gotta disagree that there isnt a smooth workaround. I have been doing this for years with my family and it always works well for us. I am honestly so satisfied with the Shared List feature that I dont even want a shareable cart anymore.

  • Create a new list under your account.
  • Click the invite button to let your roommate join as a collaborator.
  • Both of you can add things like that Black+Decker mini fridge or a Power Strip Tower. This way you can both see the total price and keep an eye on deals. Last time I did this for a move, we tracked the price of a memory foam topper and grabbed it when it dropped by 30 bucks. It is way safer than sharing passwords and keeps everything organized until you are ready to hit buy.
