Can I share a direct link to my Amazon shopping cart?

So I'm currently helping my brother set up this whole smart home ecosystem for his new place in Chicago—nothing too crazy, just some Zigbee door sensors, a couple of smart plugs, and a specific hub that actually plays nice with Home Assistant. I’ve got about 14 items sitting in my cart right now and the total is hitting just under $450 which is perfect for his budget. Usually, I'm the guy people come to for tech advice and I’ve been using Amazon since like 2008 so I’m pretty familiar with the platform. I know I could technically make a public Wish List or a Registry but honestly that feels like such a massive chore for a one-time purchase. I just want to send him one single link where he can click it and all these specific SKUs are just there ready for him to hit checkout.

I tried the obvious thing and just copied the URL while I was on the cart page—amazon.com/gp/cart/view.html or whatever it is—and sent it over via Discord, but obviously that didn't work. It just showed him his own empty cart because of the session cookies and account binding. I feel like there should be a way to generate a temporary link or a shareable cart ID that isn't tied to my personal login credentials. I even looked into some browser extensions that claim to do this but I’m a bit wary about giving a random plugin access to my shopping data. Is there some hidden feature in the Amazon app or a specific URL parameter I can add to make this happen? Or am I stuck copy-pasting every single product link individually like it's 2005? Just feels like such a weird limitation for a site this big...

  • Just use a public wishlist and tell him to use the add all to cart button.
  • Check CamelCamelCamel to see if those Zigbee prices are actually at a low point. Chicago winters are brutal on battery-powered sensors btw. I had some door contacts basically stop reporting once it hit ten degrees last year. Anyway, those are your best bets for now.

> Amazon doesnt let you share a direct cart link @Reply #1 - good point! Wishlists are slow and extensions feel risky. Im satisfied with Cart To Link tho—its safe, fast, and works well for sharing builds.

Honestly man, Ive been through this exact headache so many times when building server racks for my family. Short answer is nope, Amazon doesnt let you share a direct cart link because of how they handle session cookies. Its a security thing so people cant hijack your login info. I remember back in 2017 I tried one of those Share-A-Cart browser extensions to send a list of gear for a home studio and it completely messed up my browser settings, plus I started seeing weird login attempts from other locations shortly after. You really might want to consider the risks before trying any third-party plugins... giving some random dev access to your shopping data is a massive gamble in my opinion. Be careful with the manual copy-pasting too because you might miss a specific SKU. I would suggest just biting the bullet and using the Idea List feature. Its way less of a chore than a full-blown wedding registry. You just go to your lists, create a new one, and then you can move items from your cart to that list pretty quickly. Make sure to set the list to Public or Shared before you send the link. It might feel like a workaround from 2005, but trust me, its way safer than having your account compromised. I did this for a buddy who needed a Zigbee setup last year and it was the only way to keep the budget under control without sending a wall of text on Discord. Just watch out for price fluctuations while hes looking at it... prices on those smart plugs can jump around daily.
