So my main monitor is literally dying on me right now it keeps flickering every five minutes and I can see these weird lines at the bottom. Im a freelance designer based in Chicago and I really need a solid color accurate screen like the Dell Ultrasharp series because my current setup is just not cutting it for client work anymore. I've been doing some digging online and everyone keeps saying to wait for Black Friday because that's when the real deals happen but I also saw some threads on Reddit saying Dell does this weird fiscal year end sale in late March or early April where they clear out old inventory for cheap.
I'm really anxious because my budget is strictly around $550 and if I wait until November I'm scared my current monitor will just go black and I'll lose a weeks worth of work while waiting for a shipment. But then I see people saying Black Friday in July is just a marketing gimmick and the prices aren't actually that low compared to their random weekend doorbusters. I'm just so confused on when the actual steepest drop happens for the high-end stuff not just the cheap office monitors. Like should I just bite the bullet now or is there a specific month where the Ultrasharp line usually hits its lowest price...
TL;DR: Don't wait for Black Friday if your screen is dying. Dell runs member sales and business coupons almost monthly where you can grab a solid UltraSharp within your budget. Honestly, as a fellow designer, I wouldnt risk waiting months if your current screen is already flickering. You lose one client project because your monitor died, and that cost-savings from waiting for Black Friday is completely wiped out. I had a similar dilemma last year and ended up just buying a Dell UltraSharp during one of their random spring sales. I am incredibly satisfied with it. The color accuracy out of the box is fantastic and it works well with my setup. No complaints at all. Dell runs these 10% or 15% off coupons for their email newsletter signups or through work discount programs all the time. If you combine that with their regular weekly deals, you can easily find a great UltraSharp under your $550 budget. Honestly, just get any UltraSharp from Dell that fits your size requirements and you cant go wrong. They are built for our kind of work. Waiting for November for maybe a $50 extra discount just isnt worth the anxiety of your screen dying mid-job.
^ This. Also, I’m gonna disagree slightly with just jumping on the first sale you see. While your screen is dying, you dont want to panic-buy a subpar model just because it’s 20% off. I’ve been really satisfied with my dual U2723QE setup, and they work well for everything I throw at them, but you gotta watch the specs closely. Don’t make these common mistakes:
@Reply #1 - good point! I totally agree that waiting is risky when you're doing professional client work! I went through something similar last year where I kept holding out for a holiday sale while my old screen was dying. It finally gave out on a Friday night right before a huge deadline! I ended up scrambling and realized that the specific IPS panel tech and 10-bit color matter way more than the timing... Here is what I learned from my crisis:
