honestly so done with my current setup right now like i actually feel like throwing my gear out the window sometimes. ive been trying to make this old zhiyun crane work with my sony a7IV for months and its just a total disaster every single time i go out to shoot. the motors keep jittering even after i spend like forty minutes trying to get the balance perfect and then as soon as i swap lenses—even just going from a 35mm to a 50mm—the whole thing starts vibrating like crazy and losing its mind. its so embarrassing when im on a shoot and the client is just standing there watching me struggle with a piece of equipment that is supposed to be professional grade.
im currently based in seattle and i have a huge wedding shoot coming up in exactly three weeks so im kind of panicking. i need something that is actually reliable and plays nice with the sony alpha software because half the time my current gimbal doesnt even trigger the record button properly through the cable connection. i usually run the a7IV with the 24-70mm gm ii which isnt the lightest setup in the world but it shouldnt be this hard to stabilize. ive heard people rave about the dji rs3 or the pro version but then i see other people saying the firmware updates ruined the bluetooth connection for sony users and now i dont know what to believe anymore.
my budget is around 600 to 800 dollars but i could maybe push it a bit higher if it means i never have to deal with this motor noise issue again. i just want something that has a quick release that actually works and maybe some decent battery life since ill be on my feet for like ten hours straight during the ceremony and reception. what are you guys actually using for your sony mirrorless rigs that doesnt require a phd in engineering to balance every time you change a focal length? looking for the absolute best gimbal recommendations that wont fail me...

I totally get the frustration with motor jitters, basically went through the same thing before upgrading my kit. For a setup like yours with the a7IV and that specific lens, you really want something with high torque motors so you arent constantly fighting the balance. I have been extremely satisfied with the DJI RS 3 Pro 4.5kg Payload Gimbal for about a year now. It handles the 10lb payload capacity easily, meaning your heavy glass wont stress the system even when zoomed out to 70mm. Regarding the software, the bluetooth shutter works well for me on the latest firmware. I havent had those connection drops people talk about... honestly might be a pairing sequence issue for some. The DJI RS 4 Pro 10lb Capacity Stabilizer is the newer iteration with even better vertical shooting if you do social media clips too. The battery runtime is rated for 12 hours which basically covers a full wedding day without a recharge.

- teflon coated arms for easier micro-adjustments If you want to spend a bit less, the standard DJI RS 3 3kg Payload Mirrorless Gimbal is also great, though the Pro version gives you more peace of mind with larger lenses. Both use the dual-layer quick release plates which means you wont have to re-balance every time you move the camera. It is a very reliable experience for me and I have no complaints.
