Which Sigma lens for Canon EF mount is actually gonna be the best for shooting wildlife out here in the Pacific Northwest? I'm honestly so stressed right now because I've got a trip to Olympic National Park coming up in like three weeks and I still havent bought my long lens for my 90D. I've spent hours looking at the 150-600mm Contemporary versus the Sports version and I'm just more confused than when I started. I read that the Sport version has much better weather sealing which feels necessary for the PNW drizzle but then a bunch of guys on another thread were saying its way too heavy to actually carry on a trail for more than a mile and the autofocus isnt even that different... I really dont want to drop $1000+ on something that I cant even lift or that stops working the second it gets damp. My budget is pretty tight at around $1200 max so the Sport is already pushing it if I buy used. Is the Contemporary sharp enough at 600mm or am I gonna regret not getting the heavier one when I'm trying to snap photos of elk in the fog? I just need to know if the extra weight is actually worth the trade off for a hobbyist who hikes a lot.
Honestly, lugging the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sport through Olympic is a nightmare. I had issues with the weight almost immediately and it isnt as good as expected for hand-holding...
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've hiked both in the Hoh.
Agreeing here. I had issues with the Sport's weight; it was unfortunately not as good as expected for trekking.
