Which thumb grips are best for Leica Q2 ergonomics?

So I finally saved up enough and bought a used Leica Q2 for my trip to Italy next month but honestly I am terrified of holding it because it feels so slippery in my hands and I am really scared I am gonna drop it on the cobblestone streets. I keep seeing people talk about thumb grips or whatever they are called but I have no idea how they even work or which one to get and I dont want to spend like hundreds more dollars if I can help it since I already spent way too much on the camera itself. Do they just slide into that little slot on top where the flash usually goes?

I saw some on Amazon for like twenty bucks but then the official Leica one is way more expensive and I dont know if the cheap ones will scratch the camera or if they even fit right since I am totally new to this whole world. My hands are kinda small so I just want something that makes it feel solid when I am walking around Rome taking pictures of buildings and stuff. Is there a specific brand that everyone uses or should I just bite the bullet and get the official one because I really dont want to mess up the finish on the metal or have it feel wobbly...

^ This. Also, unfortunately, going the cheap route usually ends in disappointment. I tried a budget one from a random brand and it felt like it was gonna snap off or scratch the hot shoe because it just didnt sit flush. Its honestly frustrating how hard it is to find a middle ground between total junk and overpriced luxury. For your trip, you really need something that wont wiggle when you're dodging tourists in Rome. If the official Leica Thumb Support Q2 Black 19543 is too much (and it is, its basically robbery), I would suggest the Lim's Design Thumb Support for Leica Q2 Aluminum. Its way better than the generic stuff and actually matches the Q2 finish properly. It stays put, which is what matters for that one-handed security you want when youre worried about dropping it. Another technical option is the IDS Works Foldable Thumb Rest for Leica Q2. Its built really well, though it is a bit more specialized and mechanical. Honestly tho, just stay away from the unbranded $15 ones on Amazon. They often use soft metals that can warp or leave residue on your camera. Since you have smaller hands, a tight-fitting grip makes the whole camera feel half its weight because you arent squeezing the body so hard. TL;DR: Cheap grips are a gamble that usually fails. Get a mid-range one like Lims to save your finish and your sanity.

They slide into the hot shoe, but unfortunately, generic grips are not as good as expected due to poor tolerances. I had issues with them feeling wobbly, which is risky on cobblestones. For better ergonomics, try these:

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷
