So I finally picked up an X-T30 II because my old X-H1 was just too much of a tank to lug around for street stuff. I know my way around the Fuji ecosystem but man this tiny body is a different beast to handle when you're actually out there walking for hours. I'm heading to Chicago in about three weeks for a quick weekend shoot and I realized my current setup is basically just the body and the 27mm pancake lens which is great for size but I keep almost dropping the thing lol.
My logic was to keep it as minimal as possible but now I'm thinking I definitely need a thumb grip or maybe one of those cheap metal baseplate grips from SmallRig or something because my pinky is just hanging off the bottom and it's driving me crazy. I've got maybe 150 bucks left in the 'fun fund' for this so I can't go crazy with official Fuji stuff. Was looking at those JJC thumb rests but I heard some of them can actually bend the hot shoe mount if you're too aggressive with them?
I am basically looking for:
What are you guys using that doesnt break the bank but actually holds up for a full day of shooting? I looked at Peak Design but those prices are kinda steep for what they are even if the anchors are cool...
Im pretty satisfied after testing these on my trip...
Jumping in since I went through a whole ordeal trying to protect that hot shoe mount from bending. I eventually settled on the Lensmate Fujifilm X-T30 II Folding Thumb Grip and I've been really satisfied with how it handles. It has a small rubber bumper that transfers the pressure to the camera body rather than the mount itself. I was terrified of snapping something off, but this design feels rock solid and worth the extra cash. For the wrist, I found that thick padded straps are a nightmare in the heat. I switched to a Vancity Camera 10mm Climbing Rope Wrist Strap and it's been great. It's just a simple cord that doesn't trap moisture against your skin. I'm also pretty cautious about batteries because I've had cheap ones swell up in the past. I stick with the Nitecore NP-W126S Camera Battery 1140mAh now. They're a reliable electronics brand and haven't given me any heat issues during long shoots. Worth the peace of mind imo.
I'm super satisfied with the JJC TA-XT30II Thumbs Up Grip. Fits perfect. The Wasabi Power NP-W126S Battery 2-Pack is solid too. Let me know if you want strap recommendations!
