so i just picked up a mini 4 pro for this big trip im taking to iceland in about three weeks and im honestly stressing a bit about the storage. i spent hours looking at reviews and everyone keeps saying the sandisk extreme is the gold standard but then i go on some other forums and see people complaining that their sandisk cards just died after a month of heavy 4k recording.
my logic was to just buy the biggest card possible like a 512gb one but then i read that smaller 128gb cards might be safer in case one fails? i also saw something about the samsung evo select being way cheaper and basically the same thing. here is what i have been looking at:
im just totally lost on whether the extra speed actually matters for the dji bitrates or if its just marketing fluff. i really dont want to be standing on a glacier and have the drone give me that card speed too slow error right when the lighting is perfect. has anyone actually put these through the ringer lately? like is there a specific brand that actually handles the heat better because these drones get pretty warm. i just want something that wont give up on me mid-flight...
Unfortunately, my experience with the SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB microSDXC V30 has been pretty disappointing lately. I used to trust them completely, but after losing several sunset shots to a card error on my drone, I just cant recommend them anymore. It seems like their quality control has really slipped recently. When you're dealing with the high bitrates of 4K 60fps on the Mini 4 Pro, you need absolute reliability, and SanDisk hasnt been delivering that for me. I highly suggest avoiding the massive 512gb cards too. It sounds convenient, but if that single card fails while you are out on a glacier, your entire trip is basically gone. Its much safer and more professional to use multiple Samsung PRO Plus 128GB microSDXC V30 cards. I have put the Samsung cards through the ringer in some high-heat environments and they have been way more stable than the SanDisk options. They usually cost about twenty bucks each and they just work without throwing those annoying speed errors. Also, regarding the Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 128GB microSDXC V30, it is a decent alternative, but it still isnt quite as snappy as the Samsung when offloading footage to a laptop. Basically, just stick with the Samsung Pro Plus 128gb units and swap them every few flights. You dont want to risk a total data loss by putting all your eggs in one 512gb basket... especially in a place as beautiful as Iceland.
