So I finally pulled the trigger on the Mini 4 Pro after flying my old Mavic Air into a tree last year, but honestly I'm kinda annoyed right now. I've been doing this for years and usually I can get away with just the fly more combo and call it a day, but this time it feels like I'm missing half the setup. I'm out here in coastal California trying to get some sunset shots and the glare is absolutely wrecking my sensor and the screen on the RC 2 is almost impossible to see when the sun hits it just right. I thought the upgraded tech would handle it better out of the box but I guess not.
I've got a huge trip to Big Sur in two weeks and I need this thing dialed in before I go because I wont have time to shop once I'm on the road. I have about 300 bucks left in my budget for gear before my wife actually kills me for spending more on toys as she calls them. I'm looking for stuff that actually makes a difference in image quality and ease of use, not just plastic junk.
What are the absolute must-have accessories I need to buy right now to make this thing actually usable for pro-ish shots?
Man you gotta get filters for that glare! I totally love the Freewell DJI Mini 4 Pro Bright Day 6-Pack ND/PL Filters. They use premium optical glass and wont mess with your gimbal calibration at all! For that RC 2 screen, grab a Startrc DJI RC 2 Sun Hood Cover to block the sun. It is fantastic!
To add to the point above: it looks like you have some solid options for filters and the screen now. I have been very satisfied with the DJI Mini 4 Pro ND Filters Set (ND16/64/256) for my own coastal shoots. Since they are official DJI parts, they wont trigger any gimbal overload warnings which is a huge plus when the wind picks up. You asked about the wide-angle lens... honestly, it is great for those Big Sur cliffs. The DJI Mini 4 Pro Wide-Angle Lens gives you that 114 degree field of view without making everything look distorted like a GoPro. It works well and clips on easily. If you want to keep everything organized, I also suggest the Lykus Titan MM430 Hard Case for DJI Mini 4 Pro. It is super rugged and fits the RC 2 perfectly. Itll keep your gear safe while you are hiking around and definitely fits under your budget limit.
I've been really happy with the K&F Concept DJI Mini 4 Pro ND Filter Set 6-Pack lately. They're super light and I've had zero gimbal issues since I started using them. For the screen, I actually prefer the Skyreat DJI RC 2 Tempered Glass Screen Protector Matte Anti-Glare over a bulky hood. It cuts the glare down enough for me to see what I'm doing. Skip the wide lens tho, it just adds distortion you dont want for those big coastal views...
